Wax paper is a regularly entry in low budget projects. If I need a lot on square meters I usually go to a local fabric store and buy cheap or refurbished fabrics ( white and black ones, one time even green). The strangest DIY diffusion method that I seen was a hard plastic bottle cut in two on a flash light.

If I'm going for a high key look I love bouncing light of the ceiling, Its a great way to increase ambient light. I also like shooting light though unbleached muslin, it will soften the light nicely but also add a warmer tone to the light. and lastly I like using a black moving blanket as a neg fill as it doubles as some sound dampening.

Foam core meant for arts & crafts can be found in the dollar store and work great for bouncing. For $4 you can tape 4 of them together and you have a huge bounce card.

My favourite DiY diffusion cloths are actually white fabric walls for party tents! The great thing about them is that they have 3 sides with velcro straps that allow you to hang it from a boom, or drag it tight between two stands/trees/flag poles, you name it, to get the full 2m/6ft lenght! The ones I use are about 1.25/1.5 stops of diffusion and are also woven, meaning they don't bounce and toss the light around as much as some reflective fabrics, sort of like grid cloth. I reccomend this to everyone, pros aswell as beginners. I got mine in the winter from bargain bins for like 10 bucks! (PS: Before you buy, make sure they aren't too thick or waterproof which stops the light almost completely).

Love when Aputure puts out content like this. I have some lights but I'm getting to the point where I want to use more modifiers to shape the light to better fit the story. Maybe we'll see some Aputure budget modifiers in the future?

Lately I've been hanging a 7' wide shower curtain from a 6' speed rail, that is held up by a super clamp attached to a C-Stand. Makes for a good low budget 7x7 diffusion when lighting big spaces!

Covered wagon. Not enough people do this still but has some excellent light quality. Take a scrap piece of 1x3, screw some porcelain sockets into it, wire them up with some 14 gauge wire and a male hubble. Throw some chicken wire over the top so the bulbs don't burn the diffusion and wrap in muslin. Super awesome DIY light that gets used on all kinds of films like the social network and snow white and the huntsman etc.

I use multiple types of diffusion: Aputure umbrella, shower curtain, bought some white muslin from a fabric shop online, and I was cleaning out some boxes and found a great piece of fabric that's half cotton/half polyster. Also have two sizes of 5 in one reflector. The favourite: the larger 5 in one. quicker and easier to set up and use.

Hi, great video! My favorite DIY diffusion method is: Expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam for bounced, baking paper or soft white bed sheet for diffusion, black felt for negative fill, and for C-stands I used PVC pipes or the hands of a good friend.

I use Dollar Store white foam boards as bounce cards, 1 Ledgo LED ring, and 1 Neweer LED light. To hold the foam boards I just tape them with Gaffer tape to one of my tripods or Gorilla pods, since I don't have C-stands. Also the 5 in 1 reflector is used often.

When are you guys going to make some mid-sized RGB lights? We got the MC and the new Nova P300c, looking forward to something in between. RGB LED mats wouldn't hurt and maybe some light tubes. That would be great to control all that together with your app.

My #DIYBUDGETLIGHTING Using any readily available items from the home like a white bed sheet (USD 5 more or less) and either clamp or slung it across a cheap Stainless Steel Cloth Hanger (USD 7 more or less plus its adjustable on width and height with Wheels!) to become the "scrim on a C-stand" and add "colors" to my single color LED panels for the backlight by using a simple affordable school stationary, that is a colored glass/cellophane paper (about USD 0.60 cents for 39" x 35"/100cm x 89cm).... So all in ....Kaching! USD 12.60 for my DIY Diffussion setup. Surprisingly it works works, haha 😉
