How about the top display? Can you show how to replace the top display? If I just want to change the housing of my APX6000XE from yellow to black, without upgrading model, do I still need to remove the speaker itself from the board after I removing the speaker grill?

I would suggest perusing through some of the popular sites such as eBay , Mercari, etc and see if that yields any results but if money is not an issue, you may be more successful if you visit an authorized Motorola dealer located in your area. The housing is the same as the regular one. Only the control top/knobs are different.

If I have an APX600 1.5 how would you recommend that I start the process to upgrade to a M3.5? Can you recommend any services/people for this upgrade? What is the significance of the Model Number/Firmware upgrade?

Did you have to update the flashcode on the radio for the keypad to work? I have an 8000XE 2.5 but am wanting the full keypad with numbers. I have the needed software to program the radio that Motorola prevents us from speaking of publicly, but wanted to be sure I don't need a flashcode to do this upgrade myself, as they are rather costly.

I see on ebay that people sell the housing, screen and keypad to upgrade to either a 2.5 or 3.5, I have a 1.5 APX 6000XE right now and want to upgrade to either 2.5 or 3.5. How do I go about updating the flash code so the front key pad buttons will work?

You’d have to find a source to do the service. Motorola vendors and clients are EXTREMELY RESTRICTED by Motorola and will not perform any sales of radio upgrades or radios to the general public. Call the number 732-954-9074 and a representative from my shop will discuss this further with you if you wish to have a service performed.

The radio does need to have its flash code upgraded if it is not already a model 2 or 3 radio. The model without the screen will not do any FPP operations without the screen or keypad. Any other questions plz ask

Honest question, I have that APX6000 M2.5, is it worth upgrading to the M3.5? What are the benefits to the keypad? Thanks!

Hey moss killer, that’s a great question that many folks have asked themselves myself included. Upgrading any radio depends on what it’s going to be used for. If you need to do a lot of front panel programming on your radio, meaning that you need to adjust and change frequency is on a consistent basis in order to stay in contact with different agencies or clients then absolutely. A model 3.5 is meant for individuals who rely heavily on their radios I need to see and hear as well as communicate with a wide variety of agencies or persons. A model two is what I would suggest for light radio use. A model one is for folks who just need to pick up receive and transmit a radio to get through their workday. The keypad is specifically to navigate through and select critical components of the radio such as transmitting power, receiving power, your battery status, adjusting your ID or your talk group if you’re going to be on trunking, as I stated before, changing frequencies, so there are benefits depending on what the radios going to be used for. I hope that this answers your question in a way that makes sense
