After a certain point, you really start to sympathise with Carl when he refers to the Aqua Teens as animals, and that he says he lives next to a 3rd world country.

There's an interesting context to the three Markula episodes, the reason they started the season without the Aqua Teens is because of the Boston incident. It happened after the Boston marathon bombings. The marketing team thought it was a great idea to place metal plates shaped like the Mooninites across Boston and people thought they looked like bombs. They reported it to the police and that started a city wide panic because the police also couldn't figure out what they were. It nearly led to the show being cancelled. So, they reached an agreement eventually, but, as a joke they "punished" the main characters and removed them from the show for two and a half episodes.
