In this video, I travel up the Potomac River in a short outdoor adventure and unpack the Gladius Mini Underwater drone and test it for the first time. I have never really operated any kind of drone (or video game controls) so it was a bit of a disaster, but also proved it really isn't too hard to master for old-timers. The actual underwater footage is toward the end of the video if you just want to skip to that. It is very clear on my computer and I hope KZbin does a fair job of rendering it. Comments: - Easy to assemble and instructions are short and sweet - Nice small tight unit, no problem in currents, but have read that a strong current can be a problem - I had to turn my phone wifi on and then off again to connect it to the Mini every time I turned the Mini off - Video is saved "somewhere" but not on the phone. I had to download it to my phone at home and it was slow (but worked flawlessly) - No issues with the app - I really do like the unit and have big plans for it. Stay Tuned! More videos soon. Here is my Amazon Associate link if you want to check it out: amzn.to/37dWJpB My jet boat was built by RiverRat Jet Boats and here is their information if you want more information or a quote: m.facebook.com/RiverRat-Jet-Boats-602034027134752/

Love the addition to help aid ye in the explorations! No doubt at some point, through the use of the drone, you will spy something interesting at a murky six meters, some sunny warm day, gear up with the snorkel and mask and wetsuit, tell us all to hold our breath with an impish grin and a wink, and unearth some cool, long forgotten fragment of history. The drone I believe, simply opens up more interesting doors of potentiality, and most certainly opens more doors for entertaining, interesting, and fun videos. I can't imagine that first underground/cave water system you release it into. Cool stuff! And again, as always, thanks for bringing us along for the ride! And keep growing the beard!!!

The AQUACHIGGER is not a fly by nighter... Beau Ouimette ( The AQUACHIGGER, Chigg, uncle Beau, BOHNER ) has been doing this for some 35 years give or take..... That thing shoots some superb video. From what I have seen of such devices....they really need more proportional control. It seems they are wide open instead of slow, measured maneuvers. Maybe it is just a matter of leaning just how much stick to give the thing. What a fun thing to play with. I can just imagine that thing cruising along in some underground river......looking for openings.

Very cool. Mid 90s I made an after hours ROV with the owner of an underwater nuke visual inspection company. We made a aluminum fram, mounted cheap grainger dc motors that we had to blow out with air after each use. Used 2 pvc pipes capped to make it nuetrally boyant. We already had underwater housings for a big ccd panasonic camera. Used dc halogen bulbs for lighting. Worked great in a pool. Looked like a pontoon boat about 3' long. Too much surface area in any kind of current. We specialized in remote underwater retrievals . We used to inspect BW reactors during shutdown.
@herbertgarrison65484 жыл бұрын
you should epoxy something to the top side of the drone and attach a small rope or something to it and attach the top all the way up the umbilical just in case it gets stuck somewhere and you need to pul it out. you never want to pull on the umbilical. you should also attach magnet toe the bottom side so you can use it to pick things up.

A good way to inspect underwater from a boat is the way we inspected reactors. We used a camera that looked like a pipe ETV 1250 ou our RCS 600s ( old tech from mid 90s. It had a cable and we tied a rope to the nose by the lighting. If we had a retrieval we would tape pneumatic grippers so that you could see the end in view of the camera. Operate it like a puppet from a boat.

Cool video Chigg! Now you have to talk to Garret so they can make a metal detector attachment for it :) I was actually thinking about something similar to this a few months ago after watching videos of you walking out in fields for hours. There are drones they make now that will scan an area, flying back and forth, mapping it out with LIDAR that they have discovered ancient ruins in areas that are inaccessible due to super dense rainforest over growth. I was thinking you can build something similar but ground drone vehicle version with metal detectors on it that will drive back and forth in the field and record all the hotspots for you. Create like a metal heatmap of the area and show you where all the high ping areas are so you can go straight to them and dig them up. It would be like an off road Roomba (or even those new robotic lawn mowers) but with metal detectors on it.....Probably cost as much as the mars rover haha! But you know, I guess half the fun is wandering around out in fields and doing it yourself.

This could make for a very useful tool Chigg, but I wonder with all of that cabling if it will become entangled easily, if there are any type of unseen sticks, logs, or junk it can get hung up on? At least on the up side you have a method to drag it back to you should it have problems. Also it should extend your underwater video's further after cold weather sets in. It makes me wonder how cold rated it is, and how it would do in a lake under ice? This has the potential to be very interesting, and I look forward to seeing how it does.
