While I didn't buy my betta fish, I did rescue one. My betta fish was a class pet that was mostly impulse bought by a student. I got him and gave him a 5 gal tank, live plants, a heater, a filter, water conditioner, and a place to hide. I didn't do everything right though (I didn't cycle the tank.) Still, he is definitely better now and if you want to see him, he's on my KZbin channel.
Wish I would’ve seen this video sooner! My betta turned out to have fin rot once I bought him but it thankfully got resolved. Thank you for sharing this!

How did your Betta recover from fin rot? I think mine may have it and I don't know what to do. He probably came from Petco, so he is poorly bred. His two side fins look a bit odd.

Agreed Short-finned bettas for the win!
@garg45318 ай бұрын
All useful information but I personally would add a bit more info on different types of betta fish, both so the viewer can know about them and decide which they like best, but also to let them know about possible health problems they might have, like how long-finned bettas often struggle from their fins being prone to damage and disease, while short-finned bettas tend to be much hardier and more active Edit: on a related note, some people claim that certain types are more or less aggressive than others, and while it is true that aggression can be genetic, it’s not an exact rule and there are numerous exceptions I know one fish keeper that had a very feisty halfmoon and a very peaceful plakat, for example, even though these are considered the least and most aggressive types of betta respectively (I personally think this mindset comes from how halfmoons have giant fins that slow them down and keep them from going after tankmates, even if they have an aggressive personality [which was actually the case with this one], while plakats have shorter fins making it much easier for them to chase after other fish in the event they act aggressively)

I used to choose bettas that reacted to me, regardless of their health condition. But after a few times of that, I decided that if I could only take one at a time, that I should give the healthiest a chance instead, since there was no way for me to bring them all home. So now I don't fall for the industry's trap by supporting their bad husbandry. Now I only dish out money for the fish that got adequate care. I'm so done picking after their sloppiness and spending extra money for the extra care that goes into an initially sick betta. I want to spend all my money on a healthy fish, in its enjoyment, not its medicine. Thank you for the video, as that's exactly how I chose my last betta, a young female with healthy scales and eyes, and perfect fins. Now, she's having the time of her life in her own aquarium and I am having fun keeping her ❤

I got him and another Betta fish. On the same day, I got 5gal tanks for each and everything else. Lesson learned #1- Bettas do not like strong currents #2- Water conditioner is needed #3- They need a heater #4 - They prefer wide tanks rather than tall/long tanks to swim #5- They like natural 🍁 🍃/betta log.

I just subscribed now. I met a beta fish last week at petco. It was just resting at the bottom of the small cup. The fish got really excited when I walked up to look at the fish and gave the fish attention. When I walked away, the fish floated back down to the bottom of the cup. Then I came right back and the fish seemed really excited to see me again. I wanted to buy the beta fish, I'm 3 hours away from the pet store. I wasn't sure if the fish would make it home with me. Now I'm researching beta fish to learn how to take care of them. I sure do not like the small cups they have to live in.

@@aquadiaryofficial Thank you for replying! Most of betta in the world has been provided from Thailand even now. They don't always keep same blood in their breed. And I haven't seen such difference of aggressiveness with color.

@@sariel8406 Regardless of color they are aggressive. And their aggressiveness is individually different. Myth could be viral as this video as people do it without statistics data. DNA tends to go to origin through breeds over time. This is statistic data. It is evidenced with a lot of breeds as guppy in river. And usual breeder work is also same. As they do not focus on aggressiveness, same thing happens.
@ItsMinnowSeason Жыл бұрын
@@sariel8406maybe this is because in trying to ensure the best genetics in early days of domestication, they allowed the more aggressive betas to breed only as non-aggressive ones may have been deemed weaker/sick so it's just become smth strong in the breeds?
