Jerry French has a great solution to rigging a trailing hook on shank flies. This system is great to use with Intruders, Ultra Squids, Sculpin patterns and other shank style flies. The Ultra Rig System gives the tier the ability to place the hook behind the fly at any length they desire. The angler also has the option of changing the hook if a different size is preferred or the hook becomes damaged.

What kind of ostrich is that?

There are different grades of ostrich. The typical plumes you see in stores are too fuzzy to tie nice looking steelhead flies. Look for ostrich drabs, the herl is finer than the larger plumes.
