Aquapasto Watercolour Medium | Winsor & Newton Masterclass

Aquapasto is a watercolour painting medium designed to give a subtle impasto effect to watercolour. Used here with Smalt (Dumont’s Blue) Professional Watercolour, you can see as the paint is mixed with the medium it becomes thicker. Then, when water is added, a lovely glaze-like effect is produced. In fact, Aquapasto can be used as a transparent glaze. In a side-by-side comparison of watercolour with and without the medium, you can see that Aquapasto decreases the flow and keeps the water from pooling in one area, unlike paint mixed with water alone.
