I agree with you and also use the black filter sponges in my tanks, they are fabulous. I've not had cycle crashes.

They're way better than filter cartridges because of the amount of biological bacteria they hold.

I agree with you on everything you said. Excellent video. I think the biggest thing filter cartridges have going for them is the convenience factor. Changing them out is easy and that appeals to some people including myself at times depending on how busy I am. That said I normally don't use them. I cut a piece of filter floss and stick in the hob for mechanical filtration and I have a sponge filter in the tank for biological. If I'm using a hob on a tank it is purely for mechanical purposes but I have some tanks with only sponge filters.

What do you think is better: sponge, Bio-balls, C-rings, lava rocks, etc... in your filter?
@TrafishAquatics5 жыл бұрын
According to studies i have read ceramic rings have the highest surface area for beneficial bacteria to grow followed by lava rock and sponge which are fairly close follow By bio balls, however with ceramic rings and lava rock, once the small pores get clogged the surface area is greatly reduced which is why I like sponge because it's easy to clean. You can clean the ceramic rings and a lava rock but that involves boiling it which kills the beneficial bacteria
