@ I know its concrete, but earth and concrete, move, concrete can fail , many stories of that happening. It’s strong but it’s not the end all be all, with all that tons and tons of water weight on top of it I was wondering if he had a thicker pour.
@AquariumDomain.
@AquariumDomain. Ай бұрын
The lbs per square inch is very low for the tanks in comparison to the concrete strength. The original basement concrete is 5500 psi and the annex concrete is over 8500 psi, with a 40" thick footing and 8" thick fiberglass reinforced main pad. Basically is rated for high rise buildings / nuclear power plant level strength. If that weren't enough, my house is built on blue shale that was blasted down when the house was built. My next door neighbor built my house and was the previous owner, it was originally his parents house, but later sold to me when they passed. So they built the place like a tank as it was for themselves and they were a custom home building company...its a neat house...complete opposite of a cookie cutter house. 🙂

Another epic update. I like the idea of the African cichlids going to the biggest tank possible. Also was thinking about your water values for those tanks. With the amount of filtration, you must get significant denitrification. How much nitrate does your test read? I can't imagine they ever really go too high. Keep up the great work. You've got this fish keeping thing down to a science. That Asian Jungle setup has some really beautiful fish. It's a shame those clown loaches were so shy today. I love seeing their antics in other YT tanks. Is it worth placing another divider to reduce the river grow-out section to just the one end section for the stragglers? Then you can take down the current divider and let all the larger fish mingle sooner. Just a thought.

Do you expect any issues in regards to the return pumps flow rates not matching up perfectly on the Predator bay system?
@AquariumDomain.
@AquariumDomain. Ай бұрын
No, the return pump is only supplying about 1/2 of the theoretical water flow of the drain. Also I modify the drain covers to be very high flow by cutting out some of the material, since I don't have small fish in this tank. This helps prevent anything from clogging up the drain.

That is a risk, but I will be using a ultra high flow strainer as it is flowing into the filter, so I don't care if large particles go through. Since there are not little fish just needs to block baby sharks from going down the drain. 😊

Why not put the pump for the estuary in the sump then you don’t have to worry about it overflowing and you can have the intake below the waterline ?
@AquariumDomain.
@AquariumDomain. Ай бұрын
That was the other option, but the sump on the end where I am introducing the water to the estuary is the settling chamber area, so I would have to move the pump down at least midway in the sump, which basically just increases the head height and amount of plumbing to get it to where I want water coming into the estuary. From a plumbing standpoint it just seams easier like I have it, but it could be fed from the sump with a larger pump and longer plumbing run.

hey about the co2 diffuser all together on the world. it is a waste of co2 and money man. all the gas leaking away. and just a little that get in the water. i made a home made reactor that let the water in the top in and at the bodem out. the co2 came in by a smal hose and bubbled up again the flow of the water so much that everything get defuse in to the water. i could control the flow from co2 whit the needle valve and the water flow by bypassing it. whit a ball valve how more you closed it how more flow throw the reactor. 500gram gas bottle that bottle almost one year of gas before refill it. on a 800 liter aquarium full planted. 6.8 ph around. and yes let the co2 get flushed around in the reactor so it react whit the water but so much that it does not hit the bodem than it flows out true the pipe and it is lost. use smal stone or things that the water wil spread out true it make a mash make it turbulent flow bigger surface more co2 defused. greatings

Hey I just wanna thank you for all the info you’ve given on plywood aquariums. I am now starting a plywood 1,300g build it will be 12 feet long 45in wide and 40in tall, but I had a question because I will be doing 3 viewing panels. I know I have to use 1/2in thick tempered glass but I have a 4ft by 4ft 3/8in thick piece of tempered glass just sitting in my garage do you think I could get away with that thickness or will it blow my knees out lol? I was just asking because I have that 4ft peice of 3/8in glass sitting around that could be used but do you recommend I use it or just buy 1/2in tempered glass instead? The tank will only be filled up 3/4 of the way so the water won’t be pushing on the entire panel of glass also the glass will be heavily braced
@AquariumDomain.
@AquariumDomain. Ай бұрын
Unfortunately the 3/8" tempered is not going to give you an acceptable safety factor. (too much risk of knees being blown out 😊) Even with 1/2" tempered you are only getting a 3.8 (good) safety factor up to 36" in depth at 40" depth you would be under a bit on safety factor. I would start the glass 4" off the bottom of the tank and then you would be good to go with 1/2" tempered. Starting the glass 4" off the bottom of the tank really won't be noticed, especially if you have substrate, and that would allow you to fill the full 40" and still maintain an excellent safety factor. **assuming the glass will be fully face framed.
