another full plan change idea would be to put the wetland against the wall, scape that wall and up and around the pole with 3 sides of glass. would mimic the river . the 2 to 3 sides of glass will alow light and views that will open up the room a ton.
@AquariumDomain.8 ай бұрын
Certainly not a bad idea, but I can't have the wetland on the left side near the wall because the plants would block the air flow of the mini split...it needs to be able to move the air across the room. Also the whole current design is built around the center area and viewing separation for each tank, as opposed to seeing through one tank into another. For sure though there are multiple ways the room could be done and all be awesome! 😊

@AquariumDomain.8 ай бұрын

@MrDanAng18 ай бұрын
If I should build the tanks, I would put the wetland sumps towards the wall, then do one long side and the short side of the tank glass, and a 2-3 feet window on the other long side towards the glass short side. Then you'd have a partial glass panel to see straight trough the tank, while not being limited to a center tank scape in most pf the tank, just having to put in a center scape the last 2-3 feet, or just have that area as an open swimming area.
@AquariumDomain.8 ай бұрын

@alexpellman86378 ай бұрын
I HAVE AN IDEA!!! Before you start building up the other 1200 gallon. Instead of having the pole in the middle of the filter make it look like a tree coming out of the substrate in the aquarium. With the wetland filter against the wall then you could have that inside wall be glass instead of the back of the filter. With it setup like this you would be able to put a small bench up against the 1200 aquarium with the filter on the pole side. This would make you able to sit on the bench look straight into the opposite 1200 be able to turn one way and view the 4500 and look the other direction to view the 600. You would be able to see 3 out of the 4 tanks from one sitting position.
@AquariumDomain.8 ай бұрын
Not a bad idea at all, but it runs into a couple of issues...on the second tank there is two poles one on each side and also the side towards the wall is where the mini split head will go...so needs to be unobstructed in order to move the air through the room.

I think you are making a right decision about keeping tank not see through because it provides somewhat of a separation between the tanks but a see through aquarium is just so.... I have been longing for one. In 2014 when I bought my used acrylic 300 I assumed that previous owner just siliconed a black panel in there.... boy was I wrong. They JB welded that sucker in there. Bastards. I have a 3d background in mine so is what it is but I can only imagine how awesome it would be to have. In your case because of how long these are and costs associated AND because you already have like 67 other tanks with different glass sizes... you just operate from efficiency and affordability stand point and I respect that. Have to report that I feel like a complete failure. So 2nd time in 25 years I decided to try and keep neon tetras. Ordered like 75 from Miami in state (live in Florida) and bastards just keep dying on me. It has been about 8 months and my numbers are down to about 10. Just about weekly I lost another 5 and another 5. My planted tanks all have perfect parameters and I just can't keep them alive at all. Their colors are popping, eating well... and they still die if anyone sneezes in the area code. I just can't fathom how I can keep alive just about everything (I have close to 1500 fish between all my tanks) but I have failed AGAIN. Last time I kept them was in 1999. In all my research they "allegedly" can live 8-10 years and most people talk how they barely live "1-2" and honestly I feel like when they got shipped they could have been anywhere between 6 weeks to 1 year old so maybe they are dying of old age. I don't know but it is very bloody disheartening. In any event as they are dropping dead I have ordered designer fancy guppies from CA in their place. I thought of ordering cardinal tetras since they look like neons but with my luck they are just as prone to death.
@AquariumDomain.8 ай бұрын
I feel you on the Neon Tetra, I usually only get 1-2 years out of them...just die off 1 here, 1 there. I seriously doubt their normal lifespan is 8-10 years...seems way longer than comparable fish. I have had a lot more success with Cardinal Tetra, I usually get closer to 4 years out of them.

The scale of your tanks is mind blowing. When your 600 gallon will only be your 4th largest, it's almost impossible to comprehend in a domestic environment. Do you have solar or wind turbines as the cost in electricity must be astronomical?!?
@AquariumDomain.8 ай бұрын
The only way I can afford my tanks is that they are built on ecosystem principals, wetland/sump filters, plants, deep substrate etc. Also key to keeping the costs down are heating/cooling the room instead of tanks and led lighting. 😊
@MW-ut3dk8 ай бұрын
Wondering if the wetland filters would be easier to build by using plywood sheets instead of stacked lumber? The side on the inside of the tanks would be slightly shorter so may be easier to filberglass last?
@AquariumDomain.8 ай бұрын
It is just a combination of the tall height and small space inside, on the 4500 gallon the wetland is built with plywood, but it was wide enough for me to get inside and do the fiber glassing. 😊

I know the sheer size of the 4500 forced you to keep it on the ground, but while designing the two 1200 gallonntanks, did you ever contemplate raiding them up onto a stand so the viewing panel is face level instead of hip level? Was there a structural reason for keeping them on the ground, or was it for esthetic purposes that you're following the 4500 script?
@AquariumDomain.8 ай бұрын
It's not that it couldn't have built higher off of the ground, but if I did that it wouldn't leave enough room for the river bank plants to grow up. Also, I am specifically moving away from sumps into wetlands or sumps with separate settling chambers to make them easier to service...it is a pain work on a massive sump underneath a tank compared to cleaning out a wetland filter...plus I ain't getting any younger 😊

I think the tank would be good if he added a bunch of small fish with the big ones
@AquariumDomain.8 ай бұрын
There will be many smaller, but big enough to not be eaten fish in there with them. 😊
@thebloodyenglish66208 ай бұрын
To be fair once the plant roots are fully established a bunch of really small fish would likely do well. As long as they initially go in with enough numbers so they can spot predators easily and released straight after a heavy feeding of the larger fish so they have navigate the root system. As I'd doubt the larger predatory fish will show much interest in tiny fish as long as they don't get too hungry 😅 Plus the large shoal being able to detect them and root system should help them not get eaten to extinction if one does try 😅 If you don't care about where they're from as they'd really only be added for a different "dimension" or movement in the tank some danio species could be worth looking at. If you want species from the same river system then maybe Moenkhausia heikoi could be an idea (it's a small tetra found in the Xingu river that are similar to black neons). My suggestion either way if you decided to do this would be to just buy enough to breed them yourself so you can get a thousand plus to dump in the tank 🤣 Just have a small tank for the adults, a spawning setup, a few egg & hatchling trays then a single tank or tub where you can dump all the fry in once they're big enough to not get eaten by the older/adult fry you produced to grow them/hold them until you have the numbers high enough for a much cheaper financial cost (though there is the cost of time). Just a thought 😊

@AquariumDomain.8 ай бұрын
If I am understanding you correctly it sounds like you are describing a rimless tank. Silicone adheres to glass extremely well and will keep glass panels connected with no problem. You just have to use much thicker glass if no bracing is used.

would a 20 ft long, 6 ft tall sheet of acrylic break from water thats 3 ft deep and 6 ft wide without any bracing obstructing the view?

Depends on the thickness of the acrylic, also if you at least had some top an bottom bracing to face frame the acrylic against you could for sure assuming the acrylic is at least 1.5" - 2" thick.
