@funko freddie & co that's what I thought when I saw the seiryu stones he put in there. They're probably my favorite type of rock for aquariums but they're like 7€/kg where I'm from and they're not light like lava rock.. I wish I had these amounts of hardscape to chose from!
@MDFishTanks3 жыл бұрын
@funko freddie & co ??? Im confused. I did go to the shop and buy all the plants...and all the stone, the lights, the tank, the filter. Not sure what you mean?
@flowstate14723 жыл бұрын
@@MDFishTanks Admittedly, I'm just too cheap to pay 10 bucks or more for a single rock :D but at least the good things with rocks is that youll have them forever unlike plants that could just die off. I do have a few seiryu stones, but it hurt buying every single one of them and with each scape, I make sure you can see every single one of them to get my money's worth ;)

@Star Shine it’s a hobby, so it will cost you something, for size like the tank above if you spend let’s say £150 on plants and hardscape you must be able to achieve similar result. Then put it on KZbin and you may get your money back lol 😉

Hello MD. I used to own a fish store back in the early 90’s. At one point I had 31 tanks in my house. Have pretty much been out of the hobby since then. All that time & work, I never attempted a live planted tank. I just wanted to let you know that I am wanting to get back in & try live plants. You have some of the most beautiful set ups I have seen & you are so enjoyable to listen to. Thanks for teaching me & keep up the great work. I will let you know if I get back in & how I do. Thanks again....Jason

Love your videos. Lots of knowledge. Regarding odd numbers as a professional chef, when plating food. We use alot of odd numbers and asymmetry. Our brains are so processed with the symatry of the natural world that we fixate on the odd and disorder and are visually drawn to that. Keep up the great work. One thing I have found with using stone in aquascaping, if it has strong striations on it, it tends to look more natural if you align the striations consistently. If you want some of the rocks tipped or tilted, then balance it with the aligned striations and then tip it over, so it looks like it has naturally fallen down.

I actually just the other day recycled my plant rings into a shrimp hide by super glueing 3 or 4 to make one long "tube" then glueing those "tubes" into a pyramid structure! It works really nice then you can just glue a bit of moss on top and plop it in. It's most likely been done before but I just thought of it :D

I totally agree with what you said at 13:20 you'll be surprised how much plants alone do so much with providing oxygen and added filtration to your Aquarium I'll give an example like I have a 6 gallon guppy tank with a lot of stem plants and a very small Sponge Filter and that tank is crystal clear with a bunch of Guppies and babies.
@James-ye7rp3 жыл бұрын
"Small" HOBs can be upgraded to accommodate more stock by maximizing your sponges; you can cut your own sponges to any filter to make them better.

MD - you have great Videos, I am learning a lot. You keep things simple for beginners, and I really appreciate that. Sadly, I cant use a hang on tank filter. In my neighborhood we have lots of brief power outages. The power will go off for a second, a minute, a half hour. the result is just long enough power loss for the water to drain out of my HOT filter, and when the power comes back on it burns the motor out trying to pull water back into the now empty filter. I switched to a sponge filter and love it. Power outages don't bother this filter and pump at all. My Tank is doing well. I do like how much clear the water is with a HOT filter, but I burned through 4 of these filters in 6 months, so it just doesn't work for me. I could have bought a whole new tank set up for what I spent in HOT filters! Also, I have had so many disasters with canister tanks leaking that I will Never touch another one! I love my simple sponge filter, and so does my Vampire shrimp, he likes to hang out and feed off the debris on the filter. He also used to climb into my HOT filter, which scared me, so I think the sponge is safer for him. I have the flow low enough that he can get off and on with no problems. TO each his own. I would do a HOT filter if it were not for the power outages.
@pjp93833 жыл бұрын
I had the same problem in my old place, with frequent power outages. I have sponge filters in some of my tanks, but I also have some internal filters. Kind of the equivalent of a hang on back except that it hangs on the edge on the inside of the tank. Because the whole filter is inside the tank, they have no trouble restarting, and the filter media stays wet during the outage too.

@pjp93833 жыл бұрын
Certain types of plants - epiphyte plants - aren't supposed to be planted in soil. They get their nutrients from the water column. Their roots might grow down into the soil, but the leaves grow off a thick section that will actually rot if buried. Java fern and anubias are both examples, and you can find lots of videos and websites that have care guides for specific plants, so you can make sure you plant your specific plants correctly, or look them up before purchase to make sure they're appropriate for your tank conditions.
