Hey, just love the way it's been made and wow you had lot of patience for all the moss and the plants to grow before u add the shrimp... But I have few questions, hope you clear it 1. Did you do water changes , what was the water change periods so far 2. I can see fungus on the woods at the top, how do you deal with it 3. How powerful the lights should be for 9 hours a day
@AquascapingCube
@AquascapingCube 8 ай бұрын
Thank you! 1) Very little changes, and not very often. For shrimp every 3-4 weeks is enough, and I keep them very small (10-15%). 2) I did nothing ;) And it went away, it always does after a while. 3) For dry start - it can be VERY powerful, that is the point because you will not get algae. Once I filled it in with water, I kept it relatively weak. 6W LED at 60% if I remember correctly.

This tank turned out so gorgeous! The moss paste application looks so easy to do- I must try it. Also, and this might sound like a stupid question, but could you apply moss to driftwood in this way? I can't think of any reason why not, but I'm a self-professed fish nerd who has only recently learned how to stop killing my anubias.
@AquascapingCube
@AquascapingCube Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes you can do it with drift wood - I'm planning to create something like this in near future. The only thing to remember is to use wood with rough surface, so the moss can attach itself.

@@AquascapingCube That's great to hear! The piece of wood I have in mind is actually covered in little nooks and crannies, so that's quite fortuitous. And oooh- that project sounds interesting! I will be staying tuned.

Great setup, i am in the process of doing the same. How often & how much water do you change for this no filter setup? I will be using a airstone under the rocks for circulation & hopefully filteration from the porous rocks
@AquascapingCube
@AquascapingCube 7 ай бұрын
Thank you! I was changing water only at the beginning and quite small amounts. Later I was just topping the water that evaporated. Zero problems and all shrimp were doing fine and breeding like crazy. But airstone seems like a good idea, it will definitely minimize the risk for potential problems.

I just started a tank based on this video. It's a 30x18x24. Used lavarock, as you did. Two mistakes I foresee; I didn't cut the moss small enough, and didn't have a brush, so I expect there to be patches rather than full coverage. But judging by your video, it will spread quick enough. For the carpet, I'm thinking of montecarlo instead of the grass. Thoughts? Also, am I correct that you added the shrimp only two weeks after filling the tank?
@AquascapingCube
@AquascapingCube Жыл бұрын
Yes, after 2 weeks all was good for the shrimp to move in. But I was running small filter during that period to kick start the tank. I took it out before they moved in. Monte carlo should be ok. You just have to be more careful with light because monte carlo requires little more than grass. And finally: be very careful when you fill the tank: all bigger pieces of moss might float because they will not attach to lava rocks that fast. If you see this happen, stop and wait longer for the moss to really hold to the rocks. Good luck!

Thank you so much for such an informative video! Your tank is beautiful. Can I ask if there was any melting from your carpeting plant? I really want to try the DSM for my first ever tank, but I'm wary that the carpeting plant will start melting after flooding the tank and will be unable to recover itself. Any tips to avoid this? Yours looks like it didn't melt at all.
@AquascapingCube
@AquascapingCube 7 ай бұрын
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it! No, I had no issues with melting. Bigger risk is the mold. So be sure to open your tank regularly and let the fresh air inside. If you are worried about melting start with Eleocharis Parvula for the carpet and not Monte Carlo, as it's more difficult to start with. With Parvula it's very easy :) I created nano tank exacly like that, here you can check it out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/on-wq6aOZd2Slbs Good luck!
