absolutely awesome! i agree filling with a foam would truly make them unsinkable. the current design is a massive step up from a fiberglass boat but you'd only need two holes worn or poked into the pontoon for it to start filling. given the amount of wear this boat would likely see, it would happen eventually. but even then your looking at years of good use and patching them really well is certainly possible to.
@fredford76423 жыл бұрын

A very nice solution to the problems you mentioned both with wooden and fiberglass boats. One point that the video did not answer was how does the boat handle turbulent waters and storm conditions? Often multihull boats are more stable capsized than upright, so it would be interesting to check that failure mode to see what can be done in the design to reduce the likelihood of a capsize.

I am just curious how stable a pontoon boat is in rough water. This is an interesting video on how to solve a problem. Here in Mexico they use a boat called a panga. The guy that spent multiple months adrift in the Pacific Ocean was in one and his major worry was never sinking only getting enough drinking water.
@thebentley714 жыл бұрын
Your idea is great, but if you build a platform on top of the tubular pipe like hulls, the weight of the platform forces them beneath the water. Making it a much smoother ride, because these hulls ride beneath the water like a torpedo, instead of on top of the water which is rough. You would have to place the outboards on the stilts or vertical beams that hold up the platform. This type of design is called a SWATH small waterline area twin hull. This is the future of all boating being, fishing, sailboats, ships & even ferries boats.

It’s a great start but unsinkable will not stop it from capsizing and drowning everyone on board. You have the perfect platform for solar panels overhead eliminating the need for imported fuels. But I would address the issue of drag first. Those pontoons can be shaped to cut through the water then widening gradually. That will increase speed, efficiency and reduce splashing/drag.They can even be raised so they don’t touch the water when you’re traveling at speed. And you have too many braces for the outriggers. You can reduce your weight considerably by eliminating half the braces.
