Man that’s mad, dived Te Arai for years, and only ever saw a shark there once when some line fishermen sat their boat out by the rocks with a burley all morning. Great video too bro.

Epic vid bro, thanks for the content, a buddy and I spearing on the south coast of NSW Australia, and had an interesting encounter with a big girl today, we were in pretty murky water and weren't to keen on hanging round, but also have noticed over last few years the population booming also

@@joek292 Hey bro I usually dive around Narooma area and round Montague Island (few Km offshore) when I can get our there, I don't think ya need to b to worried, specially if ya diving in nice clear water and with a buddy, and the bronzies seem only that concerned for ya fish. But yeh I know what ya saying I'm still pretty inexperienced and only had a handful of encounters, but most of the time there just intrigued and curious, and ya can work out pretty early whether there relaxed or geed up. @@nathanadams4619 thanks for the info dude. I'm at the illawarra region, it's hard getting someone to come with you. I saw my first shark up close doing a freediving course on the weekend but was only a grey nurse. You might think I'm stressing but I bought a Shark Shield Freedom 7 just in case. Gonna do a spearfishing course end of the month coz I am like full noob hey haha. I have heard there are more sharks around though, the drone shark app on Instagram saw 4 great whites at sussex in one day a few weeks ago

Mean video bro! I’m pretty sure bronzies are still landed as bycatch by some commercial fishers but not being part of the QMS they are aloud to be discarded after caught by a com fisher. It would be interesting to see FishServe/MPIs numbers on bronzies caught in recent years.
@eewwiinnss4 жыл бұрын
Great video, Just so some are aware, Omaha beach is just around the corner and recreational fisherman are baiting for Bronzies off the beach all the time. This may be another reason the numbers are increasing, its due also to the efforts of catch and release targeting this species on the northern east coast.
@AquaticRehabSpearfishing4 жыл бұрын
I think line fisherman are just taking advantage of the sharks being there. That’s prime bronzie habitat.

I stopped diving the point because of the bronzies. I think there's 2 or 3 that hang around.its my usual and I know a few others that dive there too. Certainly puts the shits up ya knowing they're lingering especially if you only have float line. In saying that there's been juvenile great whites at mangawhai heads recently too. Mixed bag up here

cheers man sick footage just wondering if you have ever had a bronzie attack and cause harm to yourself or divers you associate with as were i live in south west Australia the bronzie populations are starting to boom and become more brave and even starting to pull fish out of the hands of divers and i was wondering if we actually kneed to start being wary about there risks of these normally friendly sharks or if we should be unafraid and continue like normal
@Jacedives4 жыл бұрын
I'd have to say the same thing with NSW, Shark species numbers are booming and they are really catching onto checking dive floats and learning the sound of guns firing as a dinner bell.
@AquaticRehabSpearfishing4 жыл бұрын
I have never had harm but there are a couple of really hectic situations where I expected it. When they get heated and grumpy and start charging divers to the point where spears are bending etc - that’s when I think spearos need to be wary. I think spearos targeting kingfish around them need to chill out on fish desperation but also blokes that are jigging need to lay off it on the spots where they are getting taxed all the time. Can’t see either of these happening but may as well voice my opinion.
@djangotaylor35914 жыл бұрын
@@AquaticRehabSpearfishing yeah cheers mate very understandable and i agree full heartily but over here i am chasing a fish called a dhu fish which expires really quickly yet these bronzies are still getting amped up which i think is starting to get a tad dangerous

Hey Luke I just got a Hawaiian sling for Christmas and really want to get into spear fishing, I am only 14 so no rush. Do you have any good locations I could start out learning how to use my spear and catch some good fish with it, locations have to be 1-2 hours from Auckland
@AquaticRehabSpearfishing4 жыл бұрын
Mathersons bay and Ti point are often starting locations. Polespearing butterfish is a good start and they can be really flighty with all of the pressure locally.
