Donaldson Toussaint L'Ouverture Byrd II, (born December 9, 1932) is an American jazz and rhythm and blues trumpeter. A sideman for many other jazz musicians of his generation, Byrd is best known as one of the only bebop jazz musicians who successfully pioneered the funk and soul genres while simultaneously remaining a pop artist.

@@ejbjazz2527 Lafayette Harris - Keys, Melvin Butler - Tenor Bruce Cox - Drums, I don't know Keith, but I met him once while I was in D.C. through a mutual friend. I'm originally from NC and played for 2 1/2 years with vocalist Eve Cornelious. Her now ex-husband Albert "Chip" Crawford played piano and keyboards. He played with Byrd from 1979-83 with the 125th St. Band and he's also on the recordings of the group. Currently, he plays with Gregory Porter and has been with him since his rise to international prominence. I'm glad you like this video. Byrd didn't give us this tune until 30 minutes before the taping of this program.
