So many wonderful ideas for quilts! I have an over abundance of scraps to the point that I told my husband, that 2025 would be the year of scraps! I have some others I want to do too, but we shall see. I've yet to make a list of all the quilts I want to make. I have want to make a huge crumb piece of fabric to so something with. Thank you for listing all the free quilt patterns and some others that might be of interest to purchase. I'm one that needs to SEE something. I'm not too good at making things up. Thanks again for such a great video, and God bless!

It’s called a quilt guild! Our members are constantly bringing in tons of fabric to meetings, free for the taking. Sometimes it’s a member downsizing their stash, other times it’s from someone who’s passed away.

I’m in the process of using my orphan blocks in a “communique quilt” setting. I’ve been having lots of fun with this. It is definitely scrappy. Some of my blocks are from when I was learning how to piece blocks so I’ve had to add borders to some to make it work.

One of the most fun Quilt lectures and workshops I attended was, “Orphans and Aliens: Creating Quilts from Space Junk“ with Leah A Zieber. She showed you how to take all of your orphan blocks and turn them into one cohesive quilt. In my case semi-cohesive because my Quilt blocks range from Civil War to Solids and everything else in between. It was sew fun to see everyone’s quilts coming together. I call mine My Memory Quilt with 15 years of blocks.

Frame your orphans, sash them otr do 4-patches, to get all the same size, piece a few alt blocks from scraps or strips, do a memory quit? Stick them to a wall, find out which need to be bigger. Do you put sashng on the blocks, to sew rows withour really long sashing strips? Web piece, hve you tried potato chip blocks?

Doesn't look like the Strippy Spools pattern is free? I clicked on the link you posted, and it shows $9.98?

I try so hard, but I’m finding that I just don’t like making scrap quilts. Too chaotic for me. But I do admire those who enjoy making them and have beautiful results.
@trishbishop392315 күн бұрын
I’m liking the challenge with scrappy to use 2-3 colors vs all scrappy. Within those 2-3 colors one can be all the same fabric and the other 2 are scrappy. White background (same fabric) blue (scrappy blues) and yellow (scrappy yellows). The blues and yellows can be only 5-7 fabrics vs 55! But scrappy is not for everyone. That’s what makes us all different!
@mizmerrill15 күн бұрын
Right, I get that there are ways to manage it. I’ve tried various ways over the last 20+ years, and I’m tapping out from scrappy. Thanks, though.
@connieking987315 күн бұрын
I think it isn’t for everyone. We have some things that just don’t work for us. For me I enjoy making something out of the mess and then taking it so it doesn’t look just like a big mess of scraps but a design. Maybe you can find someone to trade with or sell your scraps. That way you will still “use” up the fabric. I have a couple sewing friends who have given me their scraps and they love seeing what I make of them. Bowl cozies, baby quilts, table runners.
@mizmerrill15 күн бұрын
@@connieking9873 I don’t have scraps or scrap bins. I use up any bed quilt leftovers in a variety of small, non-bed quilt projects.

Yes but most of your scrap quilts, like Kimberly , are color cohesive. My scraps are all over the place because I like to make all different kinds of quilts from many different designers. So colors don't match at all. So scrappy is difficult!
@LynnYoung-zb7ux11 күн бұрын
Hi, RuthK, to me, scrap quilts mean using up leftovers from old projects so I have a lot of different things to try to make go together. I've found things blend better the more fabrics you have to pull from. I try to find pieces for each block that kinda vibrate when they get together, what I mean is to my eye they set each other off, sometimes I thrn look for a next fabric that will help them play well together, a transitional fabric that sets them off. All the time I'm pulling fabrics I'm looking for those little vibrations they set off that to my eyes looks like a good combo, even if they don't match! That more the merrier, I say!
@nicolletteternes42248 күн бұрын
I did an Irish chain quilt with extra scrappy stuff and it really works better than you think! They were all 2.5 inch squares so not much of each print.
