@Jay Bee Surprisingly more restrictive gun laws passed while the Republicans were in power. @Bill Randall Lately, what BladeKi11a said is true. true. No new gun laws under Obummer but under Trump we get the bumpstock ban, which neither Trump nor the NRA seem to care about. Very bad precedent. The supposedly conservative supreme court won't even hear 2A cases. Now the ATF is considering banning arm braces. CRICKETS from any republicans and the NRA. Until NRA starts doing what it's supposed to do and really fight for the 2A instead of just trying to perpetuate its own existence and line the board's pockets I'm done with them.

Professor 254 Never even noticed that guy. I assumed he’s just a Fudd. And so is Bill Randall. Yes back then the NRA has prevented unconstitutional gun laws in the past but now they became soft. Everyone in the NRA have their own personal gains so the group’s agenda shifted focus and they’re sugar coating shit. The only time they actually did something recently was when Robert Francis O’Rourke was gun ho about banning firearms all together. Every influencer that has the NRA stamped in the background has their speech was paid for. *Cough Colin Noir* There’s other smaller political groups that do a much better job than the NRA.

@Matthew Lu I'll tend to agree with you, and for my nearly weekly coyote hunting ( a necessity with livestock) I have basically discontinued the use of FMJ and use various HP/match and soft points for effective hits. I am tired and want to go to bed as soon as possible and I am not hunting for fun or sport. I just want them down and not go tracking a wounded animal for ethics sake. I like the concept of a 10.5 for fast on target and minimal weight and tree branches hanging me up but would like to know just how well the specialized lower velocity SBR ammo works with the soft points before I pour all the money into all of that. I need to work smarter, not harder. 200 yards is about the limit of my abilities under the normal night conditions with 300 under the very rare, perfect conditions. > twice in 17 years.

As I recall, theres a significantly greater amount of damage when the bullet impacts target above 2900 - 3000 fps because you get a LOT more hydrostatic shock. Anyone whose hunted with higher velocity rounds can probably attest to loss of meat because it's been turned into jelly/mush. Just adding this because the 20" barrel is probably delivering the bullet at greater than 2900 - 3000 fps to the target.

I have found that the 10.5" gives up nothing to the 20" as far as group size but you do start to see the bullet dropping sooner as the range gets longer. I think the shorter barrel as much stiffer and stays put better resulting in nice tight groups. Loved the video and please keep them cameras rolling!

@@Plur307 That it. There is no reason for a 20 inch 9mm barrel when the round is out of gas before 16 inches. The sweet spot seems to be between 7 and 10 inches which is the barrel length range for most submachineguns. That isn't a coincidence. If you're going to suppress it, then shorter like 4-5 inches might be better to avoid the hypersonic crack.

pistol cartridges are designed to burn their charge very early (for obvious reasons). They aren't going to put more charge than is needed for a pistol, so you aren't going to be getting any significant thrust past a certain point. As a matter of fact, due to friction between the round and barrel, at some point, the pressure isn't enough to beat the friction and you get velocity LOSSES with bigger barrel. Not sure of the numbers, but I bet around 16" is where any more barrel is not justifiable.

This is a great demonstration video. I already had a 16” Ruger AR-556 and a 20” M16A4 clone, but I just added a 10.3” MK18 to my collection. I was a little worried about the differences and effectiveness, although my research (and this video) pointed me toward positive notions that it isn’t a terrible difference between them. Now I’m going plinking with all three of them!

I have that exact Ruger next to me right now and am very impressed to hear that it's putting out 2,800 fps.

Yep, it's all about the ammo for that 2800fps. Switch to a BTHP or a heavier round, not 2800fps any more.

It's amazing the sound of the shots when Paul's under that roof... the shockwave just *slamming* the sheet metal. So rad sounding :)

This was an interesting video for me. I was debating on the barrel lengths for a new AR I want to build. Now I know, the 10.5" will do just fine!

It does, and I was surprised. still would be better to have a longer barrel if you want to go get medieval on deer or something for better shot placement at range
