I'm an Arab and I don't understand why anyone is offended ? I mean I'm glad that she's being inspired by our makeup. She did a great job
@TheSharmoota9 жыл бұрын
I can't with all these narrow minded hate comments. She is a MAKEUP ARTIST. Stop acting like she is not allowed to do certain things because it is "cultural appropriation..." Get over it. I'm arab, and a drag queen who wears a hijab on my head when i perform. If that offends you, you are the one with the issue. Not the artist.
@succme12299 жыл бұрын
If youre arab, do you genuinely think every arab would be okay with her doing this?
@TheSharmoota9 жыл бұрын
+succ me of course not every arab would be okay. It is a culture that has many traditions and a mindset that isn't very accepting. I am glad i grew up in America, where i am in a safe atmosphere with open mindedness and an appreciation for art and expression. I support her 100%. People need to stop getting offended when no offense is there originally
@succme12299 жыл бұрын
TheSharmoota She didnt mean offense but just because she didnt mean it doesnt mean its there.. ---- Just because there are ways to disrespect and appropriate a culture does not mean that there are no aspects of the culture that can't be respectfully used. Completely denying cultural appropriation simply comes off as ignorant to the cultures that are being affected, but saying that any and every aspect of a culture can't be touched does not help integration either.
@TheSharmoota9 жыл бұрын
Are you arab yourself to be offended? That's like saying I can't get dreadlocks in my hair or else i'm offending black culture. How stupid does that sound. Everyone should be allowed to incorporate other cultures into their lives, especially if they are doing it positively and not being degrading. Like I said, anyone who has a problem with it is simply small minded and is looking for a fight. this is like saying only REAL arabs can only do a arab makeup tutorial? Only asians can do a geisha makeup tutorial? sounds ridiculous.
@succme12299 жыл бұрын
TheSharmoota IT ISNT RIDICULOUS THOSE THINGS ARE IMPORTANT TO THEIR CULTURE, STOP TRYING TO ERASE IT AND TURN IT INTO A FASHION TREND. YOURE SO IGNORANT YOU KNOW NOTHING. *Educating you is useless especially since you have no idea what the geisha means or how black peoples dreadlocks has been deemed disgusting, nappy, & dirty by everyone. I bet you dont even understand how significant this 'makeup' look is.*

+Miss Kamalakshi have you ever been anywhere with a lot of white people? There are many whites that have thick, long, dark hair. Just because she's saying this makeup style is beautiful does NOT mean all white people want to be like you. +Georgia Rhodes Not that I should have to explain myself, but my late best friend was from Pakistan....you should not be so quick to judge others. Or to throw names upon other people. So just to clarify - I am not "racist." I do not feel that a race or culture or religion or anything else is better than another. Including mine. This is a makeup tutorial. That's it. That is inspired by another culture as something beautiful. Definition- Exotic: "attractive or striking because colorful or out of the ordinary. of a kind not used for ordinary purposes or not ordinarily encountered." ....this type of look is something I felt was beautiful and personally, not every day / ordinary for me. The end.
@georgiarhodes70989 жыл бұрын
***** this is not just a makeup tutorial. this is a video which includes harmful descriptions and misunderstanding of a specific culture. you called sacred religious items props ? wore pieces of somebody else's culture that would otherwise be mocked if not worn by a conventionally attractive white / white passing woman?
@Kathymn06019 жыл бұрын
+Georgia Rhodes oh Jesus h Christ, you wanna talk about racism? try being an Asian american and having slurs shouted to you all the time! All I see in this video is someone embracing the Arab style with no ill intent. All you social justice warriors can scuddle back to tumblr now.
@za19859 жыл бұрын
The fact that you called the jewellery a 'prop' says it all, our entire culture is just a costume for you to play around with. Why are you covering your face? Do you know the significance of a Niqab? Or is it just part of your costume? Middle Eastern people are not 'exotic' just because they aren't Western. Stop generalising and stop appropriating. You could've done this beautiful makeup look without being hugely offensive. And 'Arabic inspired' (as is in the description box) makes no sense. You aren't inspired by the language, you are inspired by the culture, which is called Arab culture. You just don't have a clue.

Uhhhh haha you are looking wayyyy too far into a makeup tutorial.... When I said "props" I was talking about jewelry/head dress/the outfit/a face piece/jewels on the face or body/etc. ..it was a generalization of how you can add multiple pieces or ideas (not just jewelry) to change the look. To be honest, every look I do is costume for me. I do these tutorials to turn into someone or something else, creating an illusion. Art. Also, they are not looks I do daily. My channel and videos are meant to be fun, inspiring, informative and different. Not to be taken as a joke or to be offensive to anyone. I make these vids for you & everyone else who watches. I work hard & spend a lot of time to try & put together something I'm proud of. that I think you guys will enjoy and understand/use. If you're honestly offended/think others would be by this look, I apologize but take into consideration i did this look because I think it is something of beauty. Not something to make fun.

Considering every Arab that commented was happy about this video it honestly looks really bad that people (mostly white) are stating that it is offensive to admire Arab Culture and be excited to emulate their fashion so they can feel different and connect with another culture for a day. Instead of using this to bring cultures and people together through admiration you are all tearing people apart that are trying to mend the already broken relationship of continents at war and using it as a means to stroke your egos for being good people when you are jumping on the bandwagon of trying to force everyone to treat human beings like they should be looked down on and pitied instead of treating them as your equals.

I hope the people commenting about the "butthurt" people understand that the only reason these people are "butthurt" is because she referred to a cultural item as a prop. Do you even know what you're talking about ? I know her intent wasn't bad, and perhaps ambushing her isn't the right approach but as a minority it's very frustrating when someone picks a part of your cultural identity, carelessly gets it wrong and is insensitive towards the meanings She's most likely unaware of the history of the niqab, used a necklace "prop" on her head to look more "exotic" had she skipped those parts, and not called it "arabic look" it would've been fine

But as an Arab,I think it should be “Arabian Nights Inspired” because Arabs DON’T look like that,the look she’s doing is more of what the world thinks Arabs look like,that sister is Princess Jasmine inspired a.k.a Arabian nights inspired because these looks are inspired from cartoons,dramas etc. because Arabian refers to fictional Arabs

I understand why people might be upset, but honestly. She explained herself in another comment. Don't make this about 'appropriation'. I'm fucking done with hearing that word everywhere. Just because they aren't of a certain culture or religion, they can still accept that religion and try out a look inspired by them. At least she accepts the culture and isn't racist about it. You should be glad she's accepting rather than calling y'all terrorists and racist shit that's all too popular these days.

Avura Rey oh so we should be thankful we're not being further oppressed? That's what you're telling us? We should thank our lucky stars a basic white girl KZbin mua used our sacred culture as a prop to get views on her shitty video? Oh wow what an HONOR! Fucking imbecile

Really people? If she said something wrong atleast be polite about it. Is it so hard to just say; "Love the look, the name of that prop is actually *enter name*" But no, you have to bash everything about her and the makeup. Why is everyone so rude these days? Be honoured that your culture is such an inspiration to other people.

The comments on this video are absolutely disgusting.I am 50% Lebanese and 50% Lithuanian. People often mistake me as "white" when really I have half of that "exotic" stuff in me, too. You're saying that our culture is being appropriated, when really someone made a tutorial in tribute to a beautiful fancy makeup style done by some middle eastern women? She was recognizing our culture, why can't anyone appreciate that? Yes, saying "prop" was in poor taste, but it was not malicious. You all need to quit acting like fucking victims and appreciate her acknowledgment of our culture. You are acting as such a poor representation of middle eastern women and it is quite distasteful and disgusting.

You guys are only bringing up cultural appropriation because she's white if she was of a different color you'd all be saying things differently
@succme12299 жыл бұрын
?? Stop trying to pull attention away from whats important
@Vivianaferner9 жыл бұрын
You shouldn't have to be a certain skin color to experience someone's culture. Now I agree she didn't really know what she was talking about so instead of being rude people should try to explain to her what to do correctly. I doubt she was trying to purposely offend people
@succme12299 жыл бұрын
yeah youre correct!! but she went about it a totally different and bad way. this is culture appropriation, this is their history, their CULTURE. And transforming all that history and culture into a plain makeup tutorial is rude, and insensitive. She called one of the head pieces a prop, those head pieces are important to their culture .. YOU SHOULDNT BE SAYING WHAT IS AND ISNT CULTURE APPROPRIATION UNLESS YOURE APART OF THAT CULTURE.
@Lea19998889 жыл бұрын
+Vivianaferner Exactly. PEOPLE HAVE BEEN TAKING THINGS FROM OTHER PEOPLES CULTURES SINCE THE BEGINNING OF HUMANITY! Black from white, white from black, asian from white, black from asian AND WHATEVER. if somone makes fun of something i get it. that's bad and not a thing to do. but there's this thing called globalisation The world is becoming more of a "one kinda nation" thing because we have a lot of opportunities to communicate and get inspired thanks to the internet. People have to stop being offended soooo easily seriously
@Vivianaferner9 жыл бұрын
I'm actually Arabian and Hispanic so good try. Cultural appropriation is a bit racist in a way how are all the cultures suppose to get along when you exclude people from certain cultures. I personally love different cultures and learning about them and people telling me I can't because of cultural appropriation? That's a load of bull. If someone isn't making fun of a culture and truly respects it why can't they wear those specific styles? If you take the time to learn you should be rewarded were all the same race just different cultures. We are the human race only difference is our skin colors so cultural appropriation isn't that big of an issue as tumblr social warriors make it out to be lol. Racism is the real issue
@greynezz9 жыл бұрын
the look is pretty!! dont pay any mind to people who just want something to be offended about. it's as if they are trying so hard to pick apart your wording and little things in order to make themselves feel like theyre apart of something bigger. I'm arab and don't see anything offensive.
