I know I'm old when hearing the version with non-racist starting lyrics still throws me for a loop, even if just for a second 😅 Covers like this one are doing so much good work in normalising the newer lyrics as default even for folks like me who grew up with Disney's more questionable content decisions. Where is this version even from? The first time I heard it was from a female cover artist and I thought she wrote the altered lyrics for this "dark princess" series but seeing comments like this one makes me realize this is an official rewrite?

@@Kahtisemo About a year after the release of the original film disney changed the lyrics from "where they cut off your ear if they don't like your face" to "where it's flat and immense and the heat is intense" due to the original promoting a harmful racial stereotype. Most kids got their VHS copies during that first year, though, so people tend to get blindsided by the difference (especially since lyrically speaking the original flows better but they did their best).

It's good, but I must ask, why does everyone do the 2019 remake's version instead of the original animated film's version? I know it had a tad bit of controversy involving the original "Where they're cut off your ear if they don't like your face" bit, but that was removed from all but the theatrical cut and the very earliest versions of the soundtrack.
