Here's a breakdown: *(lam) لَمْ + Present Tense Verb:* This combination creates a negative past tense. For example: لَمْ يَكْتُبْ (lam yaktub) He *did not* write. *(lam) لَمْ in Conditional Sentences:* When used in conditional sentences, لَمْ can imply a future action that has not been completed yet: إِذَا لَمْ تَفْعَلْ (iḏā lam tafʿal) *If you don't* do this. So in these sentences: إِذَا لَمْ تَعْمَلْ بِجِدٍّ *If you don't* work hard. إِذَا لَمْ تَتَّصِلْ بِهَا *If you don't* call her.
