Hi everyone! Shukran Shukran Shukran! (Thank you!) very much for watching and commenting and engaging on my first reaction video. I honestly was not expecting this. I've read through all the comments and I really want to thank the Nightwish Army, you guys are beyond awesome. This was my roomate's idea, his name is Joe and he's been a Nightwish fan for 20+ years, he's always wanted me to listen to Nightwish and I finally did. Went to bed last night and I thought nothing of it, I can't describe how good it feels to wake up to this. You've made me fall in love with Nightwish even though i've listened to literally this one song; the fact that the band can bring a community like this together is amazing, makes you feel good you know? I can't wait to discover everything there is to discover about them. Thank you so much. b7ibkon! 🙏

Hello @ Arab Man Reacts! Nightwish Army incoming here, your reaction just appeared on our radar.. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! Thank you for checking this legendary band's performance. Very unusual one to start to. Usually the fans asks reactors to take a look of the backstory first, to understand the context so the emotional impact to be bigger. We have a joke in our country about a big historical figure, considered to be very brave in battle, but the people said that's because his horse was almost blind and didn't seen the enemies, stepping on them by mistake.. Somehow, your unprepared reaction remembered me this episode :) For short, it's about the depressed composer facing the backlash of the fandom turned against him after dismissing the first female singer of the band with an open letter right after the "End Of An Era" concert, back in 2005. He exorcise his feelings, committing suicide in the song instead doing that in real life, that's the emotional charge you felt. About some technical aspects you observed: yes, they use prerecorded tracks with orchestral and choral parts, recorded usually with top entities as the London Philharmonic Orchestra and London's The Metro Voices choir group. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it's my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan: " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrulmentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just herd her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol " Hope you'll continue this journey with us, so I'll drop here a list of songs with the current lineup of the band you may like: "Ghost Love Score" live at Wacken 2013 (epic score) kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIrNep9-jKd0jNE "Ever Dream" live at Wacken 2013 (uplifting vocals) kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4nMZaFuma-WfJo "Song Of Myself" live at Wacken 2013 (dark/metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooLYZoSgnsl7jck "Storytime" live at Wacken 2013 (uplifting vocals) kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqfOiqqFf7-ChLc "Romanticide" live at Wacken 2013 (metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKvCaIJ5eLafjtU "Dead Boy's Poem" - live Buenos Aires 2018 (soulful ballad) kzbin.info/www/bejne/iWmoZH9tnMx_g68 "Ghost River" live at Wacken 2013 (metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmbImqeaYqp0bKs "My Walden" live at Wembley 2015 (celtic / folk) kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZ_UlnxuZZyNors "Sleeping Sun"live at Tampere 2015 (ballad) kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKTSpZ-wp56qhNk "Stargazer" live at Tampere 2015 (operatic vocals / metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJmopnSGjtKSi8k "Slaying The Dreamer" live at Buenos Aires 2018 (metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/rXKXZaeglrVopJI "I Want My Tears Back" live at Buenos Aires 2018 (celtic / folk vibe) kzbin.info/www/bejne/eGK4m5qlr8p8hrM "Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean" live In Buenos Aires 2018 (metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/qmOZo5Ksdr6EZrM "Weak Fantasy" live at Tampere 2015 (dark metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3-VZGyGl9aVoNE "7 Days To The Wolves" live at Wembley 2015 (dark metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqfWl6p3hceKjsU And if you want to hear Floor growling :) then try "Yours Is An Empty Hope" live at Wembley 2015 kzbin.info/www/bejne/rKqvpIhthphmac0 Last but not the least - they just released their 9th studio album on April 10th named "Human :||: Nature" - just take a peek to their official playlist: kzbin.info/aero/PLihZ3gi5Yvzc0pfH2cbNKUUX8o3pb8eVg You can also react to Floor Jansen's performances in Beste Zangers 2019 (TV show from Netherlands), here is a playlist made by Floor herself (start listen it in reverse order..): kzbin.info/aero/PL8iSYWeQhlimgUnWw1FDdiJN0msPzqpLo Thank you! This band is from Finland. Tuomas is the keyboarder, Songwriter, composer. Marco is playing the bass and doing also the vocals. He is very versatile and an awesome singer as well. You might watch „The Islander“ from Tampere to experience this. Emppu is playing the guitar. He can shred it but he always does exactly that much, that is required by the song. Kai at the drums replaced the original drummer Jukka, who had stop playing the drums due to health issues. But he still is with the band. Julka was a perfect drummer and showman, Kai is a perfect drummer and a machine and beast at the drums. Last but not least there is Floor, the Dutch singer. She is the bands third singer after Tarja (operatic) and Annett from Sweden (pop/rock). She can sing really everything from opera over pop/ rock to growls.

Ah, so you want viewers... well, this way you're gonna get them too. :-) First, you've chosen the right band: prepare for the incoming flood of the almighty Nightwish Army. Second, that was a really good reaction, spontaneous, honest, informed, and of course praising one of my favorite bands, so I really enjoyed that. Actually watched it two times back to back. Yup, Floor is Floor, all the epithets she always gets called apply: Amazon Valkyrie Warrior Queen Princess Goddess (don't think I forgot one), but I saw her first! (Actually, she's married to the drummer of Sabaton, another overlarge Nordic. He's 6'5''; she's 6', so it's no wonder their daughter is three but already tall as if four.) Best female rock vocalist on the planet. We all love Floor. Get in line. Speaking of the Nightwish Army, some of the more intellectually rigid among our ranks might chew you out and actually give you dislikes for committing the grave sin of not checking the backstory to this song first. Don't mind them. They're... rigid. You can always check it out later if you're really interested. There will be many requests for more Nightwish, of course. Many will ask for the song Ghost Love Score from their Wacken 2013 concert, which is great, so I will ask for a personal favorite of mine, because I love me some warrior princess Floor: 7 Days to the Wolves, live at Wembley 2015: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqfWl6p3hceKjsU And here's a great track that your camel might enjoy: Sahara, live at Tampa Bay kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooXZipmClpmKos0 (It plays with orientalism and Arabian Nights a bit, but it's meant as an homage. The music is really great and will hopefully find mercy in Arab ears.) Enjoy, there's a lot to with this band.

Marko entertaining the 24 000 crowd alone, the rest of the band and Floor joining him towards the end. "Phantom of the Opera", Marko screaming his lungs out towards the end and Tarja the 1st NW female lead vocalist wailing high with her operatic voice. It's wild! Love it! Floor is Floor, you saw and heard her!!! There is no weak link in NW. Tuomas, keyboards, is the mastermind behind most everything. Drums Jukka/Kai have a very important role. Missed this reaction when it first came out. I have a couple of key points to make. I think I'm not biased because I don't consider myself part of the Nightwish Army. They're very good but it's not a type of music I would usually listen to. But I know this: 1. Floor Jansen is the finest female vocalist on the planet. I don't make that statement based on just her work in Nightwish; check out some of her other performances on KZbin. I particularly recommend all of her Beste Zangers stuff and the work she did with Epica as well as the random clips of her singing actual opera as well as other styles of music. The woman's range is limitless! 2. The keyboardist and composer for Nightwish, Tuomas, is a musical genius. Watch more Nightwish and you'll understand that comment. I'm enjoying your video reactions; keep them coming!

People often wonder why I watch reaction videos like this, the truth is that I have such an emotional reaction to music like this that I just don't feel safe being alone listening to it. Sometimes you just need someone there to keep you going and you do a great job. shukraan (I hope this is right) for being great company.

You‘re the first one I am seeing who reacts to this version. All the others do the Wembley version, which has some better production quality. This song has a very strong and dark story: Tuomas (the keyboarder and songwriter) was in depression after the split from their first singer Tarja. He was in the position to either commit suicide in real real life or to write a song about it and die within that song. Luckily he choose the latter option. He is the poet, "killed" by the pendulum. And afterwards there is darkness, silence and just a fading heartbeat. It gives me a shiver every time. As this song is so emotional for him all the others have an eye on him. He even had his the vocals turned off in his in ears.

That's intense...wow thanks for sharing, i'll do some more reading on this and give the song another listen with that in mind, that kinda thing changes the way you percieve a song. Thank you 🙏

@@ArabManReacts to be precise....the depression he had was over the massive backlash he got from fans, industry and critics for a letter that he posted accusing Tarja of being greedy, growing aloof of her fans and the band, when she was known for her warmth and love for her fans ..he also accused her husband/manager of turning her head when in fact, she made her basic concerns known to the band since 1996 and got no settlement

thegrt one something tells me you’re a Tarja fan. Have you been able to forgive Tuomas yet? 🙄. A band is like a marriage....you don’t know what’s really going on from the outside, and it’s unwise to pick sides.....It was a difficult but unanimous decision by all members to fire Tarja, so perhaps there was another side to the story...
@thegrtone7444 жыл бұрын
@@helenespaulding9372 ... very valid points indeed...i hold no personal grudge against anyone, however , one can form a far more complete picture of the situation by focusing on Tuomas's and the band's actions at the time and its prior conduct than his consequent appeals to the world for compassion...i had the pleasure of being around Tarja on a number of occasion in my professional capacity and was singularly struck by her genuine warmth and superb charisma ...i realize that both sides had their issues but their callous, immature and personally hurtful conduct toward her , crystallized by that published letter was utterly unnecessary and vindictive (not to mention a gross violation of the NDA they all signed with Spinefarm, not to speak disparagingly of one another, while under contract)..if you so desire, i have much more detail to impart in furtherance of clearly displaying their nefarious conduct and utterly eviscerating that letter

Nice reaction man. here a little explanation. The song was about the departure of their first vocalist, Tarja Turunen, and the fallout from that. Tuomas was blamed by the community and was in a very depressed and bad state. This song is a virtual suicide and rebirth for Tuomas. Many say Tuomas was suicidal but Tuomas confirmed that he was not, but that doesn't mean he wasn't in a very dark place, and writing about his virtual suicide was a catharsis for him. If you notice, at the end of part 4 (the end of the heavier disturbing part), Tuomas made a motion of slicing his throat, that was his death in the song. Only 3 minutes prior, in a spoken word part, the words "Now I have only 3 minutes and counting" are heard, so it shows how well paced/planned/composed this song was. After the virtual suicide, was the very caring vocals which encapsulated many words of encouragement that actually came from Tuomas's parents, that helped him out of the dark place and back into being able to face the world again. If you noticed at the very end, both Empuu and Marco walk over to stand with Tuomas to give their support, as this song is a VERY personal song for Tuomas, and those two members were both present and part of the events of Tarja's departure.

Floor before joining NW actually stopped performing because of mental issues. she had anxiety and such. NW actually asked her to join after the first singer "left", but she turned them down. And when they called after the 2 front singer "left" years later, she almost told them no again because she wasnt sure she was ready to come back, but she thought if not now, then when, and said yes. She then had 48 hours to learn the entire set because NW was about to start a tour. But she owns the stages, and even though this version is not the best Poet version out there, its not really like there is bad NW versions. This song also has a very deep story connected with Toumas, the man on the keyboard, he is the composer of their music, and this song is about the pain he went through after the first singer "left" it was a bad break. Sadly many get the story wrong, and mix suicide and stuff in to it. and even though thats false, its about him fighting the pain, anger and remorse, and finding a way through by killing of that part of him so he can move on with the band. Also why its rare to see this song. its hard for him to play it.
@chadm49634 жыл бұрын
correction: They weren't about to start a tour... they were already in the middle of the tour. There was a show In Denver where Elize Ryd (of Amaranthe) and Alissa White-Gluz (of Arch Enemy) both on the tour singing with Kamelot at the time, stepped up to fill in singing the songs that they sort of knew while holding lyric sheets to save them from cancelling the sold out show.
@Matjo7588dk4 жыл бұрын
@@chadm4963 That is correct, And I see how my wording of is it well bad. Must be a mix of late night writing and english being a second language. What I meant with about to start a tour, was there was a few days before they had their next concert, so a little before she would need to start at the first show. But I did say it wrong, or in a super bad way no doubt. So thanks for adding a clearification.

Hi there! Great to see your reaction! You started out your reaction of Nightwish, with their biggest and most epic Song! -And the most personal one to Tuomas (Holopainen) their keyboard player, who also is the mastermind and genius composer of, like 95% of their music! I think you should, kind of, take one step back! -The first one the most people react to is ”Ghost love score” live from Wacken 2013. The whole Wacken show is epic! Nightwish is absolutly epic live! You have the best audio quality from the shows ”Wacken 2013”, ”Wembley 2015” and ”Buenos Aires 2018”

Arab Man Reacts As you soon will realize, after a few more reactions to Nightwish music, pretty much everything they do is epic! -Just a little bit more or less! 😀 The three biggest and most epic scores is 1: ”The Poet and the Pendulum” live from Wembley 2015 (better audio!) 2: ”The Greatest show on Earth” live from Tampere. and: 3: ”Ghost love Score” from Wacken 2013. If you want here some of their heavier stuff: ”Romanticide” live from Wacken 2013 is one of the most popular ones! If you want hear Floor growl! -Do: ”Yours is an empty hope” Live from Wembley 2015. Two of my personal favorites is: ”Everdream” live from Wacken and ”The Dead boys poem” live from Buenos Aires 2015, Floor is absolutly killing it!!!

Some backstory on this epic song. The band fired their first singer and decided to put an open letter to her on their website penned by Tuomas (keyboards/Music/Lyrics/Metal Mozart) Tarja the singer was Tuomas' childhood friend and founding member of the band. Even though it was a band decision everyone turned on Tuomas and even the Prime Minister of Finland weighed in on the sacking (Nightwish are the biggest export from Finland.) So this was a huge deal for Finland. Tuomas not only had to fire his childhood friend (and rumoured unrequited love) but then deal with the massive personal backlash and death threats from fans. He became depressed and contemplated ended the band or his life to escape the rage. Instead of actually killing himself he wrote this song about his suicide and here we are. Originally sung by their second singer it wasn't until Floor took over the singing that this song became as epic as it is (they also fired their second singer and brought Floor in on short notice to finish a tour.) The original studio version has choirs and a choirboy singing a lot of the parts that Floor can sing live. Tuomas used to have his in-ears turned off in parts because the emotion was still raw but he's better now and a different person from back then. Still Marko (bass) and Empuu (guitar) stand next to him at the end to offer their support as friends.

Got to say that I really like your tongue-in-cheek attitude! Yes, Floor is an impressive presence indeed. She's stated that she's 183 cm tall, which is exactly 6 feet - not 6'1" as is often claimed by fans. She seems to be a bit sensitive about her height though; if I remember correctly, she was bullied as a kid due to being tall. A quite unusual pick when it comes to "The Poet and the Pendulum". Almost all reactors do the Wembley performance, which has much more visual impact, but it's nice to see a change now and then! I returned to the Nightwish scene some six months ago, after a 12 year long break following the departure of Tarja, Nightwish's first singer. Up until then, I hadn't even heard this song, but Floor's rendition of it pretty much instantly catapulted it into becoming one of my favourite songs of all time, regardless of genre. I've suffered from periods of deep depression myself and feel that this song really captures the turbulence and emotional chaos of such episodes. Floor's fantastic ability to convey emotions is the final touch that truly sets this song apart. It's nothing short of a masterpiece. Regarding the chick in audience who you commented on being pretty (and I agree), I believe she can be seen in some clips from Buenos Aires as well. Some die-hard fans show up on concerts all over the world 😊 Oh and you've obviously started to develop a serious crush on Floor - bear in mind that there's a huge line in front of you consisting of both guys and gals! 😉

But to be honest its refreshing to see this more amateur recorded version. Fun to watch. Please keep reacting to Nightwish, every song is amazing, especially the ones from Wacken 2013. Excellent video, I'm VERY much looking forward to seeing more from you, especially if you continue to react to Nightwish (my favorite band continuously since I discovered them in 2005!) I have to say, DAMN, I'm surprised that you were introduced with Poet and the Pendulum, this song is incredibly deep, with a TON of history, and emotional baggage for the band. I would actually strongly recommend continuing to discover the depths of the band's talents, then coming back and watching specifically the Wembley 2015 performance of Poet and the Pendulum. It's probably the most well-received, and most masterful rendition of the song. There are SO MANY good songs to check out. Welcome to Nightwish, we're thrilled to have you join the ranks of the Army 😉).
