I first heard this music in my childhood. My parents had it on record album and later my brother bought the piano music. I have loved it ever since and long before 2001 Space Odyssey. This is the first time I have seen any of the ballet. I never imagined it might appear on KZbin. Thank you so much for the upload. Can anyone refer me to a good synopsis of the story? I am not very good at interpreting the dance.

The music as a whole is fantastic - The famous two parts from minute 41-................And from minute 58 till 1;o 1;;04. Werre used as a background for drama movies / series. That is why made them easy to memorize for myself- and I know them before I listen to this music Amd archive it I’m my record. Thank you

According to the New York Times article "Film: Khachaturian's Ballet 'Gayane':The Cast" by Anna Kisselgoff (Nov. 28, 1979): [...] The new filmed version, which opens today at the Murray Hill Theater, is on the wilder side. American-produced, by the See Theater Network, it has many aspects to recommend it.The dancers are from Latvia's Riga Opera and Ballet Theater. Mikhail Baryshnikov and Aleksandr Godunov started their ballet training at that company's school and, as Mr. Baryshnikov says, the Riga Ballet is a good company. Since it has never performed in the United States, this "Gayané" offers Americans a first glimpse of its dancers. The choreographer, Boris Eifman, is also new here, although his name is familiar when contemporary young Soviet choreographers come under discussion.The combined result is a ballet film of interest to ballet lovers and anybody who likes a good show. [...] This "Gayané" is, then, a film of a stage performance in the Riga Opera House - danced especially for the American production team. It has some of the defects of a filmed stage performance, but there has also been an effort to zoom in on the right people at the right dramatic moments. In this respect, Mr. Eifman's choreography looks best in the various pas de deux that sum up the human drama upon which he concentrates.Larisa Tuisova's fluidity makes for a very womanly Gayané and Genadi Gorbanyev has a youthful exuberance as Armen. Maris Koristin treats the grotesqueries of Machak's choreography persuasively and Aleksandr Rumyantsev, most impressive of all, has the right dramatic power. [...]

Ένα Αρμενοκουρδοτσετσένικο μπαλέτο σοβιετικής εποχής στα ρωσικά σαλόνια!!! Έχει σίγουρα την σωστή μουσική αλλά ίσως όχι την πιο ταιριαστή χορογραφία ακόμα (υπάρχει περιθώριο για βελτίωση). Χρειάζεται τον δικό του Marius Petipa για να το τελειοποιήσει

Λατρεύω την μουσική του Khachaturian αλλά η χορογραφία, αν και δεν είναι κακή, πιστεύω επιδέχεται βελτίωσης. Το άλλο του έργο, ο Σπάρτακος, είχε την τύχη να χορογραφηθεί από τον Yury Grigorovich και το αποτέλεσμα είναι εκπληκτικό, δεν νομίζεις;
