ARB Awning Room 2500 Part# 813108A on Amazon, linktw.in/rFntKX

Installing my awning and annex over the weekend, many people want to go the (cheap) route with both the awnings and less reputable room additions, but ARB has these fairly well sorted out. Countries like South Africa & Australia are really so far ahead of us in terms of building expedition / overland gear, mainly through decades of trial and error, along with government certification processes on much of their equipment. Thanks for the video!

ARB awning comment. Have been using a 2.5 x 2.5 in Aust for 3 years. generally ok but problem is if you use the ARB drop down delux awning room you will find that the awning room ( 8kg )tends to bend the horizontal swing out arms. We told an ARB shop about this problem whilst traveling interstate about the issue and asked to speak to a technical ARB person. Unfortunately the sales staff at the Glossy showroom said NO NO No way the poles bend ( despite have two bent poles of ours in their hands. Reluctantly they replaced them and when it a happened again we approached ARB in another state whilst on the road traveling with some very convivial feedback and got the same result excuses excuses excuses except this time they said 'stiff luck buddy' and no replacement so we bought more poles from them. So we just STOPPED using the Drop down delux awning room and eventually put it into storage at the back of our garage and we continued to use the awning but guess what NO PROBLEMS WITH THE POLES SINCE WE STOPPED USING THE AWNING ROOM.. it is clearly apparent that the weight of the drop down awning is just a bit too much for the awning . We are about to travel again in late 2020 and may try to use the awning tent again and have now purchased two vertical poles to place under he awning arms about a metre out from the vehicle to support the swing out arms . Over the last three years we have purchased thousands of dollars of gear from ARB. inc fridges, underbody protection plates compressors, awnings, drop down awning tent rooms, recovery gear etc etc SUMMARY genera quality of ARB gear ok price point is expensive but generally ok BUT CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WILLINGNESS TO TAKE A BIT OF CONVIVIAL FEEDBACK FORM AN ESTABLISHED CLIENT ABSOLUTELY LOUSY.

It makes more sense to use a foldable ice shanty cube than an awning room. They are sturdy, they are made to sustain windy conditions and can be set up away from the vehicle .
@myadventureoutdoors4 жыл бұрын
You actually make a very good point. I think the awning room would be a good option when you are going to be in one spot for several days.
@JohnLaFosse4 жыл бұрын
@@myadventureoutdoors I use a rooftop tent on a VW golf so an awning room would have been awkward so, i researched my options and found an Eskimo quikfish 3 for $150 or so last year and added it to my roof rack. I eventually went to cabelas and picked up an alpine chef stove for it. It has extended the season considerably in Maine. I can take the roof tent down in the fall but next season I think a diesel heater might work and I can also sleep in the ice shanty on a cot.

I brought an ARB awning and room last yr for camping but I bought the wrong sized room! So be careful to match the correct room with awning size. Other than that, I am satisfied with the quality. I will be purchasing the correct ARB room size for this year's camping trip!

Very cool! 2 questions: do the vertical edges of each side zip together to keep bugs out and second, what do you see as the advantages of this over a free-standing ez-up type shelter?
@livelightwithwildlandorgan71226 жыл бұрын
great question! i would like to know too.
@alf35536 жыл бұрын
I’ve watched a few videos on this tent add on, nobody shows if the side edges can be sealed up for Bug protection. So two very good questions that need to be answered. Bug Proof ? , Pros and cons of a free standing tent ?
@CarlosG22885 жыл бұрын
Yes, the room can be completely sealed off so bugs can't come in. It's literally a cube that attaches to the existing awning. The advantage over an EZ up is that this can be completely closed off and that you don't have to carry any extra poles or frame for the ez up since the structure is already part of the awning that is attached to the roof rack.

I've actually never used it in a rain. The awning, I've used many times in the rain with no issues. I would not expect any issue because the windows can be zipped up. This is a quality product.

hey steve! do you still like this awning room?or is it not something you deploy often on your trips?i'm thinking of maybe a stand alone screen shelter instead.
@myadventureoutdoors2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I still like it and it has served me well. I don't use it as much as I thought I would however but it's nice to have. If you are only doing overnighters or short stays, a stand alone shelter might be a much quicker & mobile option.

I am about to purchase this for an upcoming winter camping trip at 2500-3000 meters above sea level, can you tell me if this room will be warm without using a propane heater?
@myadventureoutdoors2 ай бұрын
To a certain degree, yes. It can block wind and rain but it is still essentially a tent. A small heater inside would probably be very helpful if super cold.

The awning room will completely seal itself with one exception. The front outward wall at the bottom has no zipper. the netting zips close but the canvas at the bottom is open and just hangs. All of the mosquito netting does seal and zipper close keeping the bugs and critters out.

Well Steve, they knew people with superior brains don't bother reading the directions anyway, so why include them? hehe That is a nice looking portable room. That was really well thought out to make sure each side could be open or closed, with or without the netting. Handy design there!

Sometimes the burden of all this brain power is worth it Bill. Less papers to deal with. I think it will be a great room for naps.

Naps with the fresh summer breeze flowing through. Yep, I can get on board with that.
@gregwilkerson57436 жыл бұрын
Would someone with a superior brain have the opinion that the ARB arwing and room could withstand a strong southern summer thunderstorm when camping?
@myadventureoutdoors6 жыл бұрын
I know such a person and even though I haven't used it in a strong storm, I believe it would handle a storm with winds pretty good. Just make sure when you set it up, stake down the poles. If the soil is soft, tie the cordage around a couple decent rocks or logs and I think it will handle a southern storm pretty well. Thank you for watching Darth.
