Those look so good in the containers. Those are great centerpieces that you can keep year round and just fill with annuals throughout the growing season. Love it!

An old BQ fork works great loosening root balls without damaging them. Also good for loosening and aerating compacted soil because they're long, thin and strong.

It's always a good idea to soak the root ball in a bucket of water, until fully absorbed, before transplanting into another pot or in the ground.

They are a great investment and as a matter of fact we have more every-green to show in our next video. We have gotten to enjoy them so much in our small garden and hope that one day we will be able to get them in the ground. The roots did look very good for such a small container and I’m glad we switched them out when we did. Thanks so much for watching! -Ambrose

I have small juniper trees in small urns that I need to move up into larger containers. I picked them up when they were tiny and have grown the last few years. I am afraid to plant them directly into the ground because we have such a tiny yard and I don't know how tall they'll grow. Question for you, why didn't you transplant them into considerably larger containers. The new ones don't look much larger than the old ones.

I’m just curious, why one needs to amend pine bark at the bottom if there’s a drainage hole at the bottom. Don’t see how plants would be sitting in water. I’ve posted a dwarf spruce without any amendment & it’s doing amazing.

I planted 2 little giant arborvitaes in containers, I used pine bark and garden soil and mulch. About a little over a month ago they dry out . I have to removed them. I don’t know if I didn’t water them enough or it was to hot. The shrubs turn brown drying out. I want to buy new shrubs . How do I water and care for them?
@GardenObsessions
@GardenObsessions 5 жыл бұрын
There could be many things going on from what I’m reading in your comment. First you stated a month ago which would have been really hot depending on your zone. Second, you mentioned garden soil. Potting soil is what you want to use for containers. Newly planted shrubs especially I. The summer need about 10 minutes of constant drip in order for them to take up as much water. Another tip is to use a fertilizer with microrizhae preferably espoma biotone to help the roots establish quickly. Let us know if you have any more questions.

@GardenObsessions

Arborvitaes can live up to 20 years and yes you can in a 20 gallon container or bigger. Make sure it is a very durable container that can accommodate a full grown shrub. 💚💚💚💚💚💚

What kind of urns? Are they plastic or resin. I don’t want them to look cheap and urns have a nice elegant look. I was going to put an evergreen in an urn on each side on my bottom step to give color during the winter. The house is very grey and the hydrangeas turn to sticks so I need a little life and color and think they would look great. Don’t know which evergreen I was think arbs but need advice on the urns and what to do. I live in New England so cold climate but it’s southern Rhode Island so it doesn’t get extremely cold compared to mass Vermont and Maine. I am 2 miles from the coast

can you leave them in the containers outside over winter? I am in Zone 7B
@GardenObsessions

Yes they can stay in containers in 7b. After living in NC zone 8 we moved to Virginia Zone 7 where we had container garden and everything did well. You can get frost prove containers for extra protection. 💚💚💚💚💚💚

In live in Zone 5, Canada. Plan to put in south facing location. How do you water them in winter when all is frozen and how often do you water them in hot summer south exposure. Thank you Brother for a wonderful demonstration on video. I have been planning to plant them on pots but I had no courage given our brutal winters.
@GardenObsessions
@GardenObsessions 4 жыл бұрын
No watering during winter, just make Sure to continue watering during fall until the ground or the soil freezes. In your zone I would use a frost proof container and heavily mulch during winter. If you plan to place in a south facing area and a spot that gets lots of wind be warned that it’s possible to wind burn the foliage especially with arbs in containers. During spring and summer months continue to water heavily in containers as in a container they soak up lots of water. Let us know if you have any other questions.💚💚💚💚💚💚

About how tall can these grow while still in a pot/container?
@GardenObsessions
@GardenObsessions 4 жыл бұрын
Some arbs planted in the ground can grow up to 3 ft a year. In a container depending on the size will construct its growth to only a few inches per year but eventually will stress out and start to show after about two years if not planted in a bigger container.

Loved this video. Question...are those plastic pots and do they have holes in the bottom. I prefer plastic only because they are easier to move around. With some larger pots it is impossible to drill holes because of the structure of the pot. Also, I have a tendency to overwater. Would love your opinion on holes or no holes. Any advice would be helpful. Thank you. 🙂
@GardenObsessions
@GardenObsessions 5 жыл бұрын
Good Morning and happy Sunday! These containers are resin reinforced with concrete. We like to use these types of containers so they withstand the elements, especially with evergreens. We use plastic as well and there is nothing wrong with that. We always advise to have some type of drainage and with a resin container like that it’s best to use a masonary drill bit so it doesn’t crack it and with a little bit of water causes less friction for the bit to gone through. Let us know if you have any questions and we will be happy to answer them. 💚💚💚💚💚💚

Ok so if I buy emerald greens that are 5-6ft high can plant them in these pots or bigger ones (what size?) Iam still thinking if I will add concrete slab on side yard or not but if I do then I will put them on pots to add privacy to a 173 ft fence facing street. . I live on a corner lot and I need privacy from outside people looking into my yard. I also need about 6 fast growing tree to plant to block my 2 story neighbooor...I need about 10-12 feet to add privacy asap..been looking at pococarpus too.
@futbol1972

Also another reason I would like to put them in pots is because that will add about another foot of hight right away.:) don't need to take them out of pots ever if I don't want too right? Also they will probably grow very slow since pots will restrict growth?

I would rather listen to gardening videos where the person speaks clearly and pauses. So many gardening videos have people speak that it doesn't seem like they breathe between words or worse, what is now popular in the USA, people speaking with a nasal twang or with a whiny voice.
