This is exactly what I'm still learning at 26. I'm learning to might as well just "be me." All this time, I wanted to be more than what I am. More outgoing, brighter, happier, smarter, fitter, more in awe and in wonder...but I realize, that maybe it's all about accepting yourself in that exact stage in your life. In picture books from when I read as a kid, it was when the adult admit defeat and settled down to their average every day life...that was the worst and the end of things. But now...I realize...there is no shame in admitting defeat. I'll never be all I wanted to be...but I can try my best as this "me". And I will try to surprise myself. Because there is always room for growth and improvement, even if it wasn't how I imagined it to be. That's what this song means to me. It makes me filled with the nostalgic hope and instill an evershine onto my eyes.

Self acceptance is one of the hardest things to acquire, and it doesn't necessarily get easier. I'm 56, there's some things I've fulfilled, others I had to walk away from. I still feel at times i should be someone else, of at least a better me. But part of what I've learned being here for longer is to appreciate all that I have, and to worry much less about what I don't have. Maybe life's circumstances forced me to say goodbye to some things, but honestly, I'm lucky to live in Canada, to be able to read and write, to have a child, to have both legs working, and on and on. I've had to learn to be grateful for what the world HAS given me, not what I may never have. But I still look in the mirror at times and think...oh, if only....

Not gonna lie, I have been working on figuring out this aspect of life as well. I think you say it just the way it is. We are never who we want to be. That picture you have of yourself... you will never achieve, but that is ok. Admitting that is not admitting failure. Knowing this truth will allow you to open the door to keep chasing that vision you have of yourself. This is the healthiest way of growing as a person, having only yourself as the person you want to overcome. Now that you know this just enjoy the journey, let things happen, work WITH them, and you will see that there is no such thing as failure, only growing.

One night in Joshua Tree this song randomly came on shuffle, 5-6 of us had taken mushrooms and were talking around the fire. Everyone went silent and watched the fire dance to the song.
