My wife & I met Jojo & Dosa at a river in Squamish - he was such a social, uplifting & interesting person to meet. We were happy he introduced himself & we chatted & walked awhile, he pointed out all the mountain peaks by name. He was part of our experience in Squamish with a simple conversation. Saw JoJo crush it up the chief while I was there last August. Don't know that I would have recognized him if not for the huge amount of positive vibes he gave off when he got to the top. Dosa probably helped jog my memory, too. Great video, and I appreciate the insights. My partner and a few of my best friends are persons of color and relate to your experiences of feeling like they have to perform to earn their spot in white spaces. Alison Desir's Running While Black also emphasized this experience in her description of her studies. I hope that trail running and other outdoor spaces grow to be more inclusive as I cherish them and want the people most important to me to feel comfortable in them.

I really enjoyed this. Everything JoJo said def resonates with me. It's a different experience being "othered" or sticking out on trail. Love this "you don't have to justify your existence in this space". I did this for a while but now I just take up as much space as I can and bring awareness to ppl who don't realize what it's like to be in 'contrast' to the surrounding. 🤎
