He's not doing the welding. In no video of his that I've seen do you actually see him welding, lift his hood, and see the weld. Good videos though. I show them in my classes sometimes.

Thinking the SAME thing , he taught with more fluidity in 45-minutes than what I was taught in a 16-week SMAW curriculum class at a community college....The only advantage of the college class was hands-on Labs with repetitive welding.

Don't let the outdated look fool you - this may be the most concise and informative overview for beginning SMAW that I've seen. Great accurate info on the attributes of the most common rods too. This vid should be vat the top of every newbie stick welders list.

Very well done video, brings back fond memories of IVYTECH welding school back in 86. I did production welding at multiple job shops, however all gsmaw. I was fortunate to have a father that encouraged my interests, he even installed flameproof sheetrock in his basement, installed me a ventilation fan over my weld bench to bring smoke outside. I remember many fond times with laughing buddies down in basement sparking on up on my Lincoln 225 AC 125 DC at 10pm+ when parents room was directly above 😂👍. I’m very grateful to have such supportive parents that trusted me way more than I trust my own kids growing up. Welding has always been a love of mine, after 30 years at age 50, I finally got a Hobart Handler with 75/25 gas cylinder for the garage. Even though my life has taken me into Consumer Electronics repair, my heart still has that special place for welding, the sounds and smells are so yummy! 🤗

This video was chuck full of tips and tricks to help make it easier to learn the technique of welding. It is about the bead which determines the strength of a near perfect bead. Thanks so much i am going to study this video probably a half dozen times. So i get into the habit of watching what the molting metal is telling me what is happening while i am laying down the bead. This is the best video i have seen.

It should be shopped to technical training schools as a MUST SEE,for ALL pupils interested in learning this welding process. Very informative, instructing what should we well as what should NOT be done AND how to correct the errors in the process. Every bit as good as training I received thirty years ago,BETTER in many aspects! YOU SIR,CAN PAT YOURSELF ON THE BACK,THIS WILL HELP ALL THAT PAY ANY ATTENTION!! WELL DONE!!

I'm in a welding class at my community college, and there's 11 or 12 students which makes it hard for the instructor to observe and instruct individuals on the many techniques, equipment selection criteria, and to offer tips for improvement. This would have been a great required watch before the first day of class! Well done and thank you.

agreed. This guy is a very talented teacher. I learned more from this than entire playlists of the more popular welding channels. Watch the puddle, not the arc, for one. Hold your working hand with a resting hand is another HUGE one most skip on. Not really a channel plug but there is a canadian metallurgist and machine shop teacher called that lazy machinist who is also a great teacher. If you or anyone else is looking to get more into metalworking, I HIGHLY recommend his videos. His speech and mannerisms are a little distracting at first, but he's an unrivaled teacher and even if you're not looking to expand your horizons with metalworking, a GREAT deal of machinist knowhow is directly translatable to welding of all kinds.

This is one of the best videos I have ever seen on you tube. I am teaching my boys to stick weld and this video is perfect for teaching them all about getting started. They ran their first beads today. And did a wonderful job. I have been welding for over 40 years, my boys are 9 and 11 you would think I would be able to tell them everything about the process. But what you have done here has been better than anything I could have put together. Your explanations are clear and easy to understand and your arc shots are absolutely wonderful, clearly showing what you are talking about. Thank you for posting this. Welding machines are a very handy tool to have! Trying to use the same one is not just a rookie thing, many very seasoned pros I know including myself still prefer to use a machine they have been using for a while and have passed certification tests with. Welding equipment in my obsevation is sensitive enough to electical input, that your welder will probaly behave just a little diffrent in someone elses shop! If you have spots marked on dials you might have to retune a bit on a diffrent outlet!

Great video. Will everything he says be applicable to an inverter welder? I have an Everlast welder too and wonder how much of this instruction can help me. Thanks.

Well done instructional video. I gained great tips, video kept my attention, and I am a better beginning welder for it. I did take a course but had so many unanswered question that were not answered. You, amigo, were very thorough, thanks.

I work at Ingalls as a shipfitter, in the little 2 week welding course they graded us on break tests and to make sure we didn't have any undercut and make sure we had enough penetration. Actually being out in the yard, I've learned that none of that matters for shipfitters, just tack shit up and put load on your tacks at your own risk is their motto lol

beeroosterm he said it was the company's motto. the man has to get paid, so he has to do it their way. it sounds as if he is aware of the issue(thatswhy he's bringing it up) and wants us to know. thanks for the different angle Nick.
