Lonnie lets the audience sing 'Cisco Kid' because the OriGinal singer/writer/guitarist of 'Cisco Kid', and many of WAR's other songs, the legendary Howard Scott, is not "allowed" to use the WAR name he and original WAR bandmates, Harold Brown/drums, Lee Oskar/harmonica, BB Dickerson/bass, of the Lowrider Band at facebook.com/LowriderBand made famous. Lonnie has fronted the WARong band for so long now, that a whole generation thinks he is the be all end all of WAR. This is a huge reason that WAR will probably never get in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame liked they deserved to be long ago.

Lonnie was not the founder of WAR. WAR was started by Harold Brown and Howard Scott in 1962 as The Creators. The Creators were the first all black band to play on the Sunset Strip. That band ended around '64-65 when Howard got drafted and was sent to Vietnam. When he returned the band reformed with Harold as Nightshift and added Lonnie on keys, Charles Miller on sax, Papa Dee Allen on percussion, and Howard's nephew B.B. Dickerson on bass. They played a gig at the Whiskey and they jammed with Lee Oskar thinking it was Eric Burdon. Not long after that they added Lee into the band and hooked up with Eric, Jerry Goldstein, and Steve Gold. Steve gave them the bandname WAR, and the rest is history.
