[ARCADE/COIN-OP] Tecmo World Cup '90 (MAME) - Speed Run : one credit, hardest difficulty, least time

Probably my favourite arcade soccer game ever!! I'd find it hard to choose between this and Football Champ, but this probably just nudges it for nostalgia value. Here I tear through the game no continues one credit, on the hardest difficulty and least amount of time per match (you can check the dip switch settings at the start). Enjoy!

There's actually a way of scoring from kick-off in every game up to and including the final: 1) Run left as far as the edge of the centre circle. 2) Turn abruptly right and lob kick. 3) A player will be on the end of the ball as soon as it lands. Be ready to start him running diagonally down right until he's about level with the point where the arc meets the box. 4) Continue running to the right in line with this point. 5) When he gets to the point, shoot low ball. Works every time.

this brings back memories... did you know there was a version of this game with european clubs like milan, barcelona amd others? when I was a kid my best score at the final game was 7-0, oh the memories...

I was 11 when started to play this game, in Uruguay, played it against "Chino" Recoba, who played on calcio, he stop in the videogames shop when go to trainning in Danubio f.c. before inter de milan, always play against me cos i was ever playing it. There´s 2 types of goals that u don´t performed here, someday will show you it. Nice video.

Hi mate - thanks and yea I would definitely say it's my fav arcade soccer game - I also love Football Champ but there's something about this one! Maybe its the nostalgia playing it every year on seaside holidays! If an arcade didn't have this game I'd go and complain!! hehe

I think I remember that one too. I used to love it. It was damn hard as well, but very addictive. Been looking for that one ever since.

Haha, that Russia game, lucky git! I remember ploughing money into this as a child and finally completing it. I used to have the timing for avoiding sliding tackles down to perfection. Of course the tactics were always get it wide, cross it, overhead/headed goal. Glorious.

Nice come back during the semi-final. It's probably my favorite soccer of all time, I love how your teammate are going where you pass the game. I found out a new way to score with your video, I use mostly the "goaly air duel", when you hit it with the head getting closer and closer and on third time you score. There is an other technique you may not be aware of, it to shot very very close to the south post from far away, the goaly cannot jump that far :D !

You can score from kick off. Run foward and before you reach the end of the center circle press high pass. Then low shoot diagonal. You can do this up to about the 5th match.

And yea there's lots of ways to score, I used the 'goalie air duel' once in this, and I did try the other at 0.34secs in, my favourite is to kick the ball in the air stationary in the box and your team mate rushes in and you can scissor kick it past the goalie! This was actually quite a poor run for me with inventive goals, one vid I made I won the first game 6-0 and scored all kinds of crazy goals, but in last game they snuck an equaliser at 3secs left ruining the vid!!!

can u remember that table top soccer game based on world cup 86 ??? top down view i always loved that one hmmmm what was it called ???? it was really fast catchy tune quite addictive and very hard after 2nd match one of the first and best world cup arcade games....

@cpc4eva Xyphoe is correct. It is Tehkan World Cup. Check it on youtube and you'll recognise it. I wonder how it will work on MAME as I used to hammer the trackball when playing it. Great game.

@stevenhall123 Yea I know man, I commented earlier I knew of this trick, but I actually only discovered it shortly before making the video. I didn't practice much before making this (and its a not a particularly spectacular run), I used to complete this in the arcades all the time and thought I'd dig this up in Mame and relive some memories :)
