One of my favorite shoo-em-up games. I also have read about it in "How to Master Video Games". The yellow things that give you 60 points are called "light bulbs". The GS in the boss stood for "Gremlin - Sega". The highest score you could get in destroying the boss is when it is at the top-center. That's what I recall from the book. My first time in getting the boss was after my first time playing Astro Blaster.

I remember this at the SEGA Center arcade in Fashion Valley (San Diego) -- the game selections there included a Space Invaders clone (Invinco?) and other games rarely seen at other arcades.

This one's running spot on. Exactly how I remember it in the Arcade.

In early 80ies when i was a kid in our yearly amusementpark there was such an machine with this game. A wall unit. i had sometime a coin for it and the fight was hard!

I remember putting some tokens into this game... kind of a small arcade with some hand-me-down games in the early 1980s. For a 1979 release this wasn't bad at all. It's in color and the variety of enemies and patterns that approached you.

Data East's earliest unique game. Although some sites say that Super Break was their first, it sounds obviously like it's a Breakout clone. Astro Fighter is perhaps the most obscure game to appear in the Pixels film.

Wow, getting gas during 1970s was really challenging.

I think this guy was playing it on MAME and it has problems emulating the sound effects for Astro Fighter.

Where did you play this? Sure wish they would release a series of these games on the flashback series or Jakks portables. There are so many titles they could put with it instead of rehashing the same stuff.

I think this is the very first end level boss!

You know, you may be right about that, at least in arcade games. Gorf's Flagship and Phoenix's Mothership were also very early examples, but Phoenix was 1980 and Gorf was 1981. (Apparently the first boss ever was the dragon in the computer game dnd - lowercase letters and all - but that wasn't an arcade game)

It seemed to me, as Sash Brothers Ultimate in 2024, the year.
