Graphics are beautiful for 1982. I think it's amazing that they were able to create an illusion of depth, rather than just racing from an isometric/overhead perspective.

Man it feels good to revisit this after all these years. I've actually realized now how accurate this game was. In the 80s they had turbo V6 engines, not the high pitched wailing V8/10/12 engines of the 90s-00s many are accustomed to. And Fuji Speedway was the track of choice for the Japanese Grand Prix back in the day before Suzuka Circuit. I'm glad they omitted the twisty turns before the straightaway. And you gotta love the cigarette and booze ads all strewn about haha. Good times.

Anyone else miss the simple times spent at the arcade with a pocket full of quarters? Sure, the games look bad compared to what you have now, but who didn't love throwing some change at Pole Position, Spy Hunter, Hang-On, or Street Fighter? Sadly, thanks to modern gaming companies wanting to keep us inside, and by ourselves, arcades are kind of a dying breed.
@cujoedaman
@cujoedaman 5 жыл бұрын
But that also makes a good point, even bad looking games kept us entertained because it wasn't about how they looked, but how they played. Now it's "spice it up with as much bling and dazzle and hope no one notices the shit storm of bugs and terrible game play".

Now that I notice it, that "yellow spheroid" in the car may have been a very subtle in-joke that you picked up on

The drifting sound makes me want to scream massive chaos. It is so grating! But the music is nice.

I can remember playing this back in the day with a whole cheek full of bazooka bubble gum. Slobber would sometimes ooze out of the corner of my mouth. Then some strange kid would come up behind me with a quarter, place it up on the corner of the screen and say! I GOT NEXT! Wanted to kill those little pricks!

I once took the quarter and played it. Just stared at the kid and said "I'm not done."
