Arcade Game: Space Fever (1979 Nintendo)

A shooting game where earth is under attack from alien invaders. Shoot them out of the sky before they land. Space Fever is Nintendo's take on the "Space Invaders" franchise. The game is almost identical in terms of how it plays. The alien craft are arranged in rows and they slowly move left and right across the screen. When the row reaches the edge, the ships drop down a row and move in the opposite direction. As you shoot more enemies the speed will increase, as will the number of enemy bullets. You have four blocks above you that absorb the enemy shots until they are worn through, and being hit by an enemy shot will cost you a life. Sometimes a UFO will fly along the top of the screen and can be hit for Bonus points.
There are three different game modes for 1- or 2-player games :
Game A - There are two 'blocks' of aliens that move in opposite directions to each other.
Game B - The aliens move as one 'block', but they only appear one row at a time.
Game C - The same as "Space Invaders" - all the aliens move as one 'block' in the same direction.

Normally, I'd just ignore a clone like this. But remember, this was a game made by Nintendo. Freaking NINTENDO. Really shows how far Nintendo's come from making games like this.

Funny enough, Sega also made a Space Invaders clone as well, called Space Attack released the same year as this. Published in Japan by Sega and in US/Canada by Gremlin Industries (which eventually got bought out by Sega)

Everything was ripping ripping off everybody back in the day. Space invaders was huge, then pac man clones. Later street fighter was super hot. It is funny now nintendo is big into suing infractions but the pacman lawsuits did not happen yet in 79 ;)

@@scottbreon9448 most of the puzzle rip offs are color matching games. Taito "the ppl who made space invaders, made bust a move where you match 3 colors and everyone copied them on that too." Colors aren't important on Tetris. But there are a crap load of Tetris clones on old home computers

Wrong, space invaders was released the year prior. This was released in 1979, the same year as Galaxian

@@scottbreon9448 neat. That goes to show that Namco was ahead of everyone technology wise that year. Galaxian is a nice leap from Space Invaders/Fever
