The best thing about this game is the fact you could burn up enemies with fire from spells/oil to get a sort of "fatality" effect (unless the said monster was immune to fire, example Hell hounds) it was one thing I had missed in the sequel despite it being a far better game, nice playing btw.

This is not the default difficulty. I practiced for about two months using save stats to focus on the areas I was having trouble with, until I was finally able to beat it beginning to end on a single credit. The best way to beat flame wing is either with the boots of speed or sliding out of the way of his attacks. Probably the hardest game I ever beat. I'd have to rank it above Ghosts n Goblins world rom 2. Couldn't beat US rom though.

Plot twist: The DM was Mexican and he speaks Spanish whenever he gets excited. He decided to incorporate it into one campaign after a player rolled a 20 during an action in which said player hits the dragon in the head so hard it gets angry and starts speaking in Spanish.

I remember walking aimlessly around my local arcade while waiting for someone to put a quarter in this one. Many magazines rose the hype about the upcoming of "Tower of Doom" and when it finally came out I was so scared to play it in public because I didn't want other people watch how I got pwned. :P I played it like just two times and as an Elf alone (big mistake). Again, I would have liked if you had set the demo sounds on first so the intro had audio. "Welcome to the INDY world!" :'D

I love Dungeons & Dragons Shadow over Mystara slightly more than I do Dungeons & Dragons Tower of Doom. Reasons why? The addition of the Magic User, who was a very popular character on this game. More people played as the Magic User in my opinion than any of the other playable characters. Also, the magic weapons were a lot better on D&DSOM than D&DTOD. There was another game called King of Dragons which wasn't apart of the D&D games but still developed by Capcom. Capcom and Midway were two of the biggest arcade giants back then.

They need to make a spiritual successor for this game. Truly one of the best arcade beat'em ups of the generation, and I was really happy to see when they made it available for download on Xbox and steam. Imagine what they are doing with Dark Alliance but in this kind of format. Play as the forgotten real cast under the classic Capcom beat 'em up style. That would be nothing short of legendary. Side note, I want to do some more let's plays of this game! Essentially run through the game 100% with every character taking every route in the game. I realize this comment is 2 years old, but the spiritual successor is Dragon's Crown which is on PS3 and PS4. The PS3 version is the original and the PS4 is a remaster.

Capcom's spiritual successor is unironically Dragon's Dogma, which is finally getting a sequel. It's a 3D third person game but a lot of the DNA from these games is in there, just look at the Everfall and compare it to the giant spiral staircase in Shadow over Mystara or the design of the goblins and many other creatures. It takes a lot (and I mean A LOT) of inspiration from Berserk as well. (to the point where there's an official tie in DLC with Guts and Griffith's armour)

Thanks for the upload, a great gameplay video, love this game, one of the best capcom (or arcade games) ever, would love to have the cabinate at my home... Based on your exp score, (and just for the heck of it) i looked in my 2nd ed players manual, at 1,06,057 exp, your fighter would be level 14 almost, 15, (level 17.5 is mil exp) and have 9+15 (D10 ) yes, i am a bit of a geek... but oh well...

I always thought the dragon was easier than the long route. I always ended up dying more to all the enemies on the long route plus the beholder boss was tough as hell. All in all the dragon was easier AND took less time.
