Alcon, aka Slap Fight, was a crazy game for its time, what with the upgrades making your ship broader than the side of a barn, and the secret of sacrificing your first life to gain a full complement of upgrades. (Most everyone I watched playing this game would cheap out and die without a shot fired with their first ship, for a second ship instantly armed to the teeth.)

I spent way too much money on slap fight in the arcades way back in the day. I knew it so well I could complete it 4 times, but the 5th wrap around was just too fast. Loved it.

@hobanagerik If I don't remember bad, only laser weapon can make the plants grow up. Another trick, that I never understood how to obtain, is a little helper in the 4:00 zone.

I remember a few tricks with this game like shooting the little plants which makes them grow. Also, right at the very start if you dont move or shoot and allow yourself to be killed you get some kind of bonus. Can't remember what it was though. Free upgrades or something like that but it was such a long time ago now.

This game looks pretty fun and advanced for its time for a shmup from 1986.

Nice played. I played this game big time when I was a kid, and completed it many times. If you want to finish it in a much simpler way, I'd recommend you to switch to laser in 3 points of the game (then quickly go back to missiles): at about time 5:30 in your video, and until you defeat the boss, for the boss that appears at 10:00 and for the final boss. Those three points are much easier with laser. I've to congratulate you for defeating the boss at 10:00 with missiles! that's pretty tough! :)

the first game I ever properly finished as a kid on the c64 . sister used to sit and watch and press space bar for power up when I told her to . that was her only job .

@hobanagerik I remember someone showing me that in the arcade, and I showed it to someone else... It gave you full wing dudes and maybe the missile weapons too. You kinda had to scramble after that to get your speed upgraded before your wide, slow ass was shot down.

The music for this game sounded weak to begin with, but it's a long game and the themes are re-introduced in a way which keeps you going. Eventually, the music makes for a cheerful foreground to a challenging cheerful game.

I know that, but if you cutted out that, what else did you cut out? did you perhaps cut out scenes that you replayed over and over to get through? I guess we will never know, but you are suspect my friend. next time put a clock in the corner over the screen so we can see that this was all done in one play.

i remember this game. i was schoolboy when i play it. but here the player seems dont know where must change to laser. coz at some locations laser just kick opponents butt to the moon for 1/100 of a second !! especialy last boss !!

I always put 3 points into speed in the very beginning and then get shield as fast as i can, after that then homing missile and max wing. works best
