+Billy Weed It isn't a series, but there's a (really buggy) game called "Messiah" you maybe like. It's a bit old dated (and aged pretty bad for my tastes) but the concept is the same.

It's cool how some of the enemy deaths are funny: Yuki Onna turns into a melting snowball, the swami achieves Buddhist enlightenment, but some of the deaths are horrifying: the Guidos with guns die foaming at the mouth. Way to traumatize the kids, Japan!

Fridge logic: the hosts die when he leaves them, so the girl died at the end of the game.

The ghost decided to "die" rather than have the girl die since he didn't leave her body. his 'goodbye" is passing away while inside the girl. She will pass out and later wake up in the middle of a field. Her father will tell her the news.

In some ways, yes. Because it's not an arcade game...the difficulty is toned down and it doesn't feel as cheap. I still feel like it would've been better as a late release NES game or SNES game though.
