Considering the presence of the Arch de Triumphe in stage 4, I would venture to guess that the "City" is supposed to be occupied Paris. That final boss is not actually an alien spacecraft, but a real life aircraft concept called the Horten Ho 229. It's called "Gotha" in the credits because another name it went by was "Gotha Go 229". This being Capcom, I wouldn't be surprised if the Gotha in 1941 incorporated recovered alien technology. It would sure as hell explain the playable characters' laser weapons XD

At first, I always start first within Atlantic (Leviathan Mk.1) rather that the Sea Base (Bismarck) in the World version; did you modified the game setting or in default? Here's the point: Stage 1: Atlantic (Boss: Leviathan Mk. 1) Stage 2: Sea Base (Boss: Bismarck) Stage 3: Fortified Zone (Boss: V8 Rocket) Stage 4: City (Boss: Krote) Stage 5: Air Battle (Boss: Leviathan Mk. 2) Stage 6: Final Battle (Boss: Gotha) Also in the beginning of the game, it says on the screen: "Area: North Atlantic Altitude: 20 000 ft Year: 1941" Nothing else as I play on my CPS1PSP and CCC Remixed.....

That’s where aircraft maneuvers take place. Midair. It would be like saying: I love how that car drives on the earths surface. Don’t get me wrong, I like logic too but it’s also pretty boring. So I wouldn’t say I love it. Especially in regard to forms of entertainment where suspension of disbelief is necessary to engage in the intended way. Movies are very much like this. Video games, possibly even more so.
