Universal had some really great games. They weren't as well known as Williams and Namco but this and Ladybug are two of my all time arcade faves.

Bro.. Mr Do and Ladybug are my two faves as well. Very unique games, fast paced and brutal. Always liked the concept of acquiring lives from spelling the word extra from either killing a particular kind of enemy or collecting tokens. Such great games

Mr do is the best game ever. It is so addicting and fun. The amount of quarters I spent were too numerous. I had a stand up machine from the arcade that I bought and kept it in my garage.

I played Mr. Do as well Mr. Do's Castle in my childhood in the Arcade. And yes, I could play both Games to Infinity like this. Since you randomly find Diamonds, it was very common for me to leave the Arcade Machine with some Credits left. My Record was 17 Diamonds in Mr. Do's Castle at one Day.

Maybe you could play Mr. Do to infinity, many people can, but I very much doubt you could play Mr. Do's Castle indefinitely on a single credit.

@@richardmarsden6541 Now thinking back, I won't bet on Mr. Do's Castle anymore. Maybe not with a single credit, but definately a Day with just one coin. I used to play it together with a friend in a local Burger Shop. So we did alternately take breaks inbetween gaming :)

I played this so much, one of my top 5 arcade games. I saw it with red apples once after an engineer visited and made some changes, WOuld love to know what he did, certainly looked better with red where we see orange int this video. Lot of grat plays here, super impressed!

The apples are meant to be red, not orange. It was caused by a bug. Think about it. Who would do orange apples? lol

All this while I thought with the "sweet and candy" theme they did "Caramel (Caramel-coated) apples," which are a light brown/beige (and the apples themselves were "golden delicious" variety, which are yellow?). Not quite an orange shade, but in the shading of the machine, I thought that it was a beige of caramel all those years ago?

I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Japanese-American. Male. So, you have an idea about what era I grew up in, and what kinds of video games I played. I never got good enough to get beyond Scene 16-20, because I couldn't adapt to the faster speed as you went along. How do you get it, that the apple WILL smash the letters and "ghost monsters?" And for the OP and everybody else, what's the most number of Lucky Diamonds you have gotten in one game?

I think you have to stop moving halfway between squares. I've been experimenting with this technique in MAME and it seems to cause the monsters to either stop or even turn around briefly.

I played this in the arcades when I was young, but spent most of my time playing Mr EE on the BBC Micro later on. Whilst I knew there were differences, I did not know that the red monsters would turn away from you. I can't quite work it out - initially I thought it was because you're holding the magic stone, but there are times in the video when even without it, the red monsters would turn away. Also, so do the blue ones. In one situation the letter monster should have killed Mr Do but it just stood there and the magic stone killed the last of the red monsters completing the level.

One question...Is the diamond random?! I used to play my behind off as a kid trying to get a free game from that damn diamond! It came out once for me, but I died trying to get to it LMAO! Never saw another.

Great play, but there has to be some cheat code at play - Mr Do's ball return gets incrementally slower as you progress levels.

Hi Howard. Actually it doesn't, its always the same. It gets progressively slower the more times you shoot a red monster, but that resets at the start of each level. Try it for yourself.

@@howardsend6589 The ball behaviour is quite complicated. For instance, it will always come straight back if you shoot the letter monster, or one of his buddies, but not a red monster. Yes, apples are your best friends in this game.

Bit of Trivia: The "red" and "blue" dinosaurs here don't have unicorn horns. In the sequel "Mr. Do's Castle," they do (though that is a take on "Space Panic/Apple Panic," where you must make blocks fall on trapped uni-horned dinosaurs/dragons. A red dinosaur must be bonked and fall through one level, a blue one takes a drop of two levels to kill it. Nice take to "Pac Man" as the Alpha-Monster has three ghost monsters come ride with it after Mr. Do snatches a snack. Getting E-X-T-R-A was important to racking a high score: extra men give you longer play time. Having the burrowing blue dinos dig under the Apple to flatten themselves was important, nice! Did you have a plugged in camera set up? And how huge a memory card did you use for it (or was it all directly recorded to an audio-video file at a nearby computer)? Congratulations on the 10 million point game--did this go to "Twin Galaxies" or "Guinness Book of World Records"?

The score more than likely rolls over, its pretty common for people to get a machine just at the roll over point and quit. Reason being if the machine is one that saves high scores even when the power is off, the initials will never go away unless reset.

@@videobanditOG Yep, the score rolls at a million. I rolled Mr. Do in the mid-80s. There was a big line behind me, so I walked away. If I roll the score of a game, I consider it conquered, and I move on to the next game.
