I miss the days of walking into an arcade. The smell, the insane volume of every arcade machine going at once, the flashing lights. It was a rush walking in and scouting for new games. Usually the brand new machines were up front as soon as you came in. I vividly remember seeing Killer Instinct without knowing what it was. It was louder than any other machine there and I heard the booming announcer shouting out combo names. I immediately ran towards it and put my quarters in. An older kid came up and inserted his money to go face to face with me. Needless to say I got my ass kicked and the kid was constantly shouting out the combo names like a jackass version of the announcer. It was a magical time

@@Thor-Orion How badass would it have been for an X-Men belt scroller that features the expressive control of Punisher?
@Thor-Orion Жыл бұрын
@@elblanco5 there is an XMen beat ‘em up, though. I love XMen but I also love Punisher and I’m glad he got his own beat ‘em up, I just would’ve liked a more recognizable team up partner. I put Wolverine out there because they both had military history and could get along in my opinion. However, DareDevil and he had teamed up in the comics a few times, I remember this as a kid in the 1990’s who read comics heavily. The other obvious pick (who I didn’t name) is Spider Man who Punisher debuted by trying to kill before becoming allies, but I don’t think Spider Man’s powers would fit this games style very well, so if you wanted a spider man reference as the secondary character I would have gone with Venom. If you just wanted any Marvel Property with some recognition I would have preferred Ghost Rider over Fury any day of the week. Most other heroes don’t really make sense, Black Panther could be cool as he doesn’t have any “SUPER” powers in a similar vein to Punisher, or Blade could have been cool because he uses guns and swords like Punisher does and his vampire powers wouldn’t necessarily have to be game breaking.

I too was absolutely mesmerized by the arcades. I can't tell you how many times I would get an Nes or Master System game as a kid that was "like the arcade." I would excitedly pop it into my console only to be greeted with...something far less than what I had hoped. This is why I always say, I was very much a casual gamer when I was really young. That of course changed the day I got my Sega Genesis. Altered Beast and Ghouls n' Ghosts in 1989 was like something in a dream. At any rate, the one arcade game that stuck with me from the early 1990's was The Ninja Warriors. It had graphics to die for and the music absolutely floored me. I must have put in over 50 bucks into that damn machine over the course of a week. What kills me is I never knew it hit the Sega CD some years later...I had a damn Model 1 Sega CD. Have you ever (probably a stupid question) played the arcade version of The Ninja Warriors? Of not, it's absolutely fantastic and hard as nails. I still too this day hum the opening score while I'm doing whatever. Addendum- The Out Foxies reminds me of a 2d Power Stones. I kind of get the connection with Smash Brothers but given its setting and with people...I would say more Power Stones 1 and 2. I sure wish Capcom would bring that series back as it was just so damn good.

I'm from inner city Birmingham in the UK. The only arcades I got to play was when the traveling fair came to the local park or when I went on holiday. There was a small arcade on holiday and I still remember the games and where the cabinets were placed to this day. Chase H.Q., Ghouls n Ghosts, TMNT, 1942, Outrun, Shinobi, Operation Wolf and Paperboy. Funny thing about that Paperboy cabinet was that if you pulled back on the handlebars and pressed the brake it would give you a free credit. It only worked after 1 game over and you couldn't do it twice in a row. As a kid I'd wait for someone to game over so I could do it and not pay. To my knowledge it must have been some kind of glitch or defect because I haven't heard of anyone hearing about it. I had to go to the sea front to play other games. There was a hologram game there but I was blown away when I first saw the Simpsons arcade game. I was allowed to spend a whole £1.

Completely agree about both types of arcade games giving a great variety. I classify them into two categories in my games beaten list. Console style and coin wasters. Console style are the ones with penalties for death and coin waster are games you can pay to win with no consequences. Ive beaten a pretty even number of both types and enjoy mixing it up. I tend to seek out the console style arcade games, so I like when videos mention which ones are in that style. If I really like a coin waster game I will do a low credit run like going through Double Dragon on 1 CC. If I can beat a coin waster in 3 credits or less I list it in the console style section. I have my own weird rules but I really enjoy listing games I complete. Its an old thing Ive always done. Keep up the great content.

Here is a story that is 29 years old....when I was just 10 years old (1991), I was out shopping and getting lunch with my mother...we stopped at a small takeaway shop...and like a lot of them had at the time, towards the front there was some coin operated candy and toy machines, and an arcade cabinet. I saw this cool looking beat 'em up game with weapons ...watched the play demo while my mum ordered our food...and asked to play as she was waiting. She gave me $1. I throw that dollar into the machine...and nothing...I don't know, I was pretty young at the time...and I thought like I was just waiting. A few minutes pass and my mother has the food, and we're leaving "But I haven't played yet...", nope, nothing...I said It didn't work and just got "we have to go!" and dragged away. Like I said, this was just out the front of a shop...one that wasn't anyplace near where we lived...I never got to go back. Always thought I'd see that game again though - but I never did. Some years later, with a PC at home after having discovered emulators...I decided to look for this game... Didn't have the name. Kind of hard to look for one specific beat 'em up with little to no information. Didn't know if it was one player or two, the company, the name, nothing. I remembered one thing - that the guy in the demo was on a jet-ski type thing. I looked. I googled my heart out. Nothing. Nothing. Nothing. It was like this ridiculously long standing childhood tragedy. Eventually I gave up. Today, this video showed me what I'd been looking for all along... "Thunder Fox". I'm not really even into emulators any more, but now I feel like I have to grab one again just to give this the play through I never had. Thank you, for anyone who read the story of my gaming sorrow. & Thank you, Sega Lord X for, well, helping me rediscover something I had completely given up on years ago.

Great Video SLX, I've played Combatribes under another name and really enjoyed it. It reminds me of another arcade classic Renagade; the extra move sets over the standard beatem ups, like grab punching, ground punishing, throwing enemies into one another is very satisfying. I was hoping the genre would continue to evolve character moves to give these games more appeal, visual reward and a deeper learning curve for the players; analogous to executing a fatality or learning a 10 punch combo. Yet another fun but highly under rated but really great game with high US availability back in the day was Fighters History, Ray Wins. Ironically a sequel came out for it on Neo Geo called Karnovs revenge; speaking of Karnov lol

I love the Punisher! The very first Marvel licensed Capcom produced game.

8:35 Wowee, now this is something. Any fans of Final Fantasy 6, do you see what I see? This totally looks like the Zozo battle when climbing the tower to find Terra. I can't help but wonder if this was an intentional reference that Square made.

I have Cosmo Gang for SFC, it's a splendid port of the arcade game.

Nice video. There's an arcade treasure I found are Steel Gunner 1 and Steel Gunner 2 by Namco. It's like E-SWAT except it's a gunner game. Inever played it but I seen that game and it was great. Good graphics, great parallax scrolling (compare to Taito's Space Gun) and excellent soundtrack. It outshines Taito's gunner games and even Sega's Line of Fire imo.

Another great video as always. Keep em coming! Love finding games I never knew about. Beats all the shovelware you find in the eShop these days. Space Gun looks great, but stuff like that was probably best played on the arcade cabinet due to light gun and pedal. Too bad it didn't get a Wii/Wii U port w/the Wii-motes. Really miss arcades. Heck, just miss having random arcade cabinets in Liquor/grocery stores, restaurants, ice cream parlors, etc. One suggestion, can you put a list of the games you cover in the video in your episode notes.

Jesus you really pump these vids out. Most would do quantity over quality (like my god awful channel) but no... The quality is ace!
