Capcom may have inadvertently invented the combo mechanics in fighting games like Street Fighter (1987) but Sega had floating and combos in Golden Axe (1989), it wouldn't be until the mid-90s Capcom re-introduced these mechanics while Sega arguably used these ideas in Virtua Fighter (1993).
