it´s the Prinsengracht Concert in the Netherlands, an festival which hosts one master pianist every year.. people chill out on boats and the general atmosphere is really unique. though for a recording it is very irritanting.. oh well, volodos still plays the piece beautifully! cheers

I'm shocked that the usually superb Volodos played in such a rushed -- and even sloppy! -- manner in this outdoor gig before a rudely chatty audience. Perhaps he was signaling his displeasure to them. Horowitz played "Etincelles" in a beautifully spacious and aristocratic reading, modifying only the ending measures, and tastefully so.

I saw Horowitz play etincelles live at the Paramount Theater of the Arts in Oakland, California in the summer of 1978. He was 75 years old at the time, but it was magical.

He feels free to tamper with whatever he plays. He should compose his own original pieces if he wants to do something creative---rather turning the works of real compsers into grotesque mish mashes.
