Its good but not as good as Bob Holly. Bob constantly got good height and rotation, and when he'd do it it would look so stiff. He made The Dropkick a convincing Signature. Okada's is pretty and nice Hardcore Holly's is devastating. He springs up, kicks you dead in the face or neck and backflips over on his stomach. A man that size shouldn't be able to do those things.

The point no one seems to get that Corny and all the wrestlers want is PEOPLE TO TREAT THE MATCHES LIKE IT IS AN ATHLETIC CONTEST THAT THEY ARE TRYING TO WIN AND THEY HATE EACH OTHER That is what is missing from current matches. Spotfests do not look like a fight it looks like gymnastics. Which is what it basically is knowadays in WWE. You are watching gymnastics in a wrestling ring
@WOLVES19861
@WOLVES19861 7 жыл бұрын
Nate Emond you're totally right. It's meant to look like a fight and should be rough around the edges and not look like a well rehearsed choreographed act. My favourite match was Bret vs Austin at WM13 no flips no ridiculous high spots it just looked like two guys trying beat the hell out of each other and great story telling. That to me is a 5* match and what a wrestling match is supposed to look like.

NJPW is much more believable than anything WWE has been doing for years now. Everything looks stiff, and i lose myself in a lot of their great matches. Watch the newest omega okada 2 match. @Jukeboksi 7 жыл бұрын
Take almost any line of business or game, and you quickly realize you don't win by just trying to force a win. You make the BEST DECISIONS YOU CAN, which hopefully lead you to a win. GOOD DECISIONS lead to money/wins through perseverence and hard work. Competition is more able and fierce than ever, and wrestling should portray this as well. Now how does this relate to matches? I think we are seeing more and more of this mindset in the wrestlers themselves, and the psychology of how they build a MATCH, therefore a STORY, to pull more and more people into a SHOW. There are so many alternatives if you want to watch fights, or people acting fighting, even within the wrestling spectrum. But you cannot deny the effect dropping focus on realism has had on fans AND on workers and their excitement over the business of wrestling. The tide might turn at some point, of course. I mean, nobody's talking about wrestling booms anymore, since wrestling has just gotten big, and I think it's gonna stay that way globally.

@@okcmidtownrotary4135 I love NJPW but I would argue against the Okada V Omega series mostly because Kenny really doesn't do much in the ring beside his usual move set he never tries to mix it up and I felt that Okada was really carrying the match. While Kenny is just spamming the V trigger. Which that really all he did in his title defense against Ishii.

I like Cornette sometimes but what annoys me about him is he will start a review of a match by saying “he wrestled a blow up doll before that’s dumb!” Which has nothing to fucking do with whether or not the performance he gave in the match we are currently talking about was good or not. He clearly is already entering into it preparing to hate any single move he makes regardless of anything. If it ends in a pin he’d say it should end in a count out. If it ended in a count out he’d say it should end in a pin. It’s not about being objective, it’s about saying whatever he has done is bad and wrong regardless of anything else. He is prepared to hate him and hate the match before even seeing it.

Zach Johnson and we know tv shows and films aren’t real. But they don’t insult us during the show or film by doing dumbass stuff. If there was a scene in a film and it was an intense high stakes film, then the characters stopped selling and doing over the top OBVIOUSLY fake it takes you out of the moment and you shut off and don’t take the rest seriously. So in wrestling they wrestle blow dolls, don’t sell moves that should hurt and start doing nonsensical moves for the sake of it, it takes you out of the moment and the night is ruined. When you se a magic show you know they aren’t sawing the woman in half but if they don’t sell it as dangerous it doesn’t come across well does it?

Cornette's not wrong, but people also enjoy the athleticism. I see where both sides are coming from. I absolutely agree something like a full nelson suplex off the top should be a finish, though. You devalue pretty much everything when you have these insanely long matches with constant moves that should be a finish.

I’m right there with you. I’m all for respecting the basics, the business, and not overdoing it, but these guys are/were doing some crazy shit! It’s hard *NOT* to appreciate what they’re doing, purely on an aesthetic level. I love Cornette, but he’s also a bit before my time. Ideally, I think pro wrestling should be a mixture of the old-school mentality and the sort of intelligent fight choreography one might see in a tamer 70’s/80’s Hong Kong movie. I want to be entertained, I want a story, sometimes I want larger-than-life theatrics, I just don’t want most of it to veer too far off from this side of reality.

How can you expose the business when it's been exposed for decades? It's hilarious how Jim gives himself a heart attack over Omega yet he was perfectly fine being paid to be one of McMahon's many yes men despite the fact McMahon came out publicly about wrestling decades ago. Also what about Eddy Mansfield... I've yet to find a clip or snippet of cornette shitting himself when discussing Mansfield.

And that is why I have a problem with Jim Cornette as a human being. Did Omega do stupid shit to get his name out there? Yes. Has the wrestling business gotten harder thanks to social media exposing the "real world" of professional wrestling? Yes. But has Kenny Omega moved further away from the "crimes" Jim Cornette has charged him with? Yes. Yes, I admit, Omega can be a bit too animated and has weird facial expressions and it's not always for me, but he did what he did to get name recognition into the world. Now that he wrestles a bit more serious and tries to have good matches with virtually anyone, Jim still wishes death upon him. Kenny Omega could shave his head, stop shaking like the Ultimate Warrior, quit the pointing hands and be like John Cena and Cornette would still hate him because in Jim's world, "it doesn't matter what he does now, it's what hes done in the past." Theres no road to redemption in Cornettes world. And it's really sad.

So when Kenny,the Bucks, Seth, the Hardys, Kofi etc. grow up watching the Cliq,NWO,DX and of course Vince Mcmahon (all people who were trained and mentored by guys like Cornette or Cornette himself) WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK IS GONNA HAPPEN!! Kenny's generation didn't destroy kayfabe.......you guys did. And then the newer generation had to re-shape pro-wrestling and kill themselves cuz the guys two generations before them ruined the business and MADE SURE that any generation after them would know the business. It's all different and if you miss the good ol days....look in the mirror cuz it's your protoges who fucked it up.

17:54 the only reason 99% of people who know kenny omega did that are from you talking about it. As for "back in our day, he would have never worked again" is bullshit too. In the old days, if you exposed a territory of did something stupid, you simply went to another territory and started over. Wrestlers going from mid south to WWf, appearing with a fake name and a stupid gimmick exposed the business as much as anything. Triple H and Kevin nash in WCW had multiple gimmicks in the same fucking promotion with different names. Anyone who watched AWA or WCW knew Razor Ramon was big diamond stud scott hall, so he had to be just putting on a fake worked act. That exposed the business. Fact is, the internet used to not exist. So when someone went to Japan and did something unusual, nobody in the states knew about it. Cornette is so wrong on the subject of Kenny Omega it is embarrassing
