Hi nice review. I have an Arcam avr 390 and thinking of upgrading to the avr5. Is it worth it? And Is Dirac necessary? I don’t think I can use the Dirac from my avr390? It’s pretty expensive a license. Thanks.

That centre channel would do well to be on the top shelf. I would imagine all of the audio coming out those that most important speaker would be losing virtualisation!

Hi There, Yes I would totally agree although the demo room here at the shop has to be quite fluid in terms of set up, so I often need the top shelf, I do however often rake the centre channel when it has to be on the lower shelf to help with "height" and imaging.

Where do you connect the output 2 HDMI cable to?

Normally it would be if you have 2 display devices for example a TV and a projector so it can output to both at the same time.

Hi which mode are you using for music and movies?

Hi There, I would have been using the Auto Surround mode for movies which will process everything through the Atmos module to if its Native Atmos it will play as it should be or if its True HD or DD+ then it will attempt to come up with the best height content it can, For Music I would always just use plain stereo and or plus sub depending on your speakers.

Hi, Yes in the case of the AVR5 you do need to purchase a separate DIRAC license with all the other products DIRAC is fully included

Would it be possible to get help on the setup. I'm a complete novice but got this exact model at best buy on clearance I switched from a basic Yamaha av receiever that was basically plug n play and now can't figure the AV5 out at all

Remember having the Apple TV plugged into the AVR, it then seems to overpower all the sources so basically when changing source always default to the Apple TV first!

@@Music.Movies.67 I'm saying this because I have an avr30 and at 60 it doesn't sound that loud to me, I have to go above 70 to have a forceful sound and the avr5 has half the power of the avr30.

I have my avr20 at 55 DB mind you I'm running 9 channels with the help of a couple of pa410 matching power amps

I have had an AVR10 and never have figured out how to properly set it up and run Dirac. So annoyingly complex.
