Hey man, I always tune in for your breakdowns. I wonder if you're going to react to Bridging the Rift (the Behind the Scenes of Arcane). I think it's right up your alley. It really shows the passion behind Arcane and all the things that could've gone wrong, but luckily ended up the way it did. One of my favorite parts were the technical aspects, like the animators and the foley artists' perspectives. Edit: Sorry, didn't scroll down enough to see your other comment saying you're probably gonna do it. 😅 Looking forward to it!

It felt amazing to relive the journey of Arcane with you! Having seen your appreciation for the quality and nuance in Arcane and Dark (my #1) and how you really enjoy the various filmmaking aspects, production and artistry.. I just have to mention a show called "Severance". It is the next Dark-level masterpiece. Severance would be such a powerful watch specifically for your depth of perception and analysis. Its concept is extremely original and mechanically rich. I have no doubt one day you will arrive at it and get struck with awe.

im glad to hear someone understand what silco's journey was about, how he transformed from an idealistic all sacrificing nobel for the freedom of his people into exactly what he judged vander for. It all came around, and we could only wonder what would've happen if he had the understanding back then. What could've been.

Yea, he had just come to realize Vander was right and he was wrong. Thats like turning your brain inside out. He never had any kids so he didnt understand, he thought he did but her was wrong. He defected over it, started yet another civil war over it, killed his brother and god only knows how many others over it. He justified all of his villainy with consequentialism, the goal justifys the means. It doesnt matter how much it costs and how much anyone single person suffer, its for the greater good of everyone, a small price to pay. He now has to second guess everything he ever done in his adult life. If he himself can live by that standard he no longer has justification for his actions that means the ends does not always justify the means. Would the guilt and regret crush him? I dont think Silco was actually evil. He is not callous and violent cuz he wants to be or likes it but because in his mind its the only way to make change happen and someone has to do it. Kinda like Thanos, "I am the only one with the Power, Opportunity and WILL to do what has to be done" Hes wrong and it doesnt justify or excuse his actions, but its not evil. He does have a conscience, this is why he empathizes with Powder in ep3, this is why he protects her at any turn, even against his own captains and this is why hes not mad at her right after she shoots him dead. He feels for her, immensely, so he do have both feelings and a conscience, he is a person like everyone else. He has just had to put his conscinece aside, like any give soldier who has ever been to active combat can tell you, many men sometimes have to do. To get a job done for, as it were, the greater good he had to lock that part of his humanity away and somewhere along the way it became automatic and he lost himself in it and turned into a monster. Powder found him. Thats one of the most touching parts in this story to me. Silco may have died, but I think Powder still saved him, by returning at least a small part of his humanity to him. By being the daughter he never had. And at her hands, He died a man and a father, not the monster he created.

The way consequences play out in this show is just so satisfying, you can pinpoint pretty much every choice a character makes that leads to where things end up at the end. They’re all a part of it. One example: Silco giving Marcus one of Jinx’s bombs in episode 5 to show the Council. If he hadn’t done that, then Marcus wouldn’t have handed it over to Jayce. If Jayce didn’t have the bomb, then he wouldn’t have asked Vi about it. If he didn’t ask Vi about it, then she wouldn’t have told him Jinx made them. If she didn’t tell him about Jinx, then he wouldn’t have made her a condition for Silco. If he didn’t make her a condition, then Silco wouldn’t have been talking about it to Vander’s statue. And if he didn’t talk about it, then Jinx might not have overheard it. And if Jinx didn’t overhear it, she wouldn’t have thought he was betraying her. And if she didn’t think he was betraying her, then she wouldn’t have kidnapped him, accidentally killed him, and started a war. All that is just one instance of many butterfly effects that all occur simultaneously. Seriously impressive stuff. As for season 2, the only worry I have is that it won’t be able to meet the expectations season 1 has set, but for now I am cautiously optimistic about it. Thank you for reacting to this show, and it would be cool if you checked out the behind the scenes series Bridging the Rift if you’re interested in learning about the process.

I think another great moment for Silco is when Jinx takes his gag out. He doesn’t demand Jinx untie him. He doesn’t even seem to care that he was essentially kidnapped. Instead, he immediately confronts Vi on Jinx’s behalf because he is so scared of potentially losing Jinx.
@DoremiFasolatido1979
@DoremiFasolatido1979 11 ай бұрын
Not only that...he'd just watched Vi completely disregard who Jinx is. Vi doesn't care about Jinx. Vi doesn't embrace Jinx. Vi doesn't love Jinx. She loves Powder...she wants Powder back. She wants Jinx to not exist...and will do whatever it takes to either force her to change back to Powder, or will just ignore who Jinx really is, and pretend forever that she's still the same Powder. And we see firsthand that his concern is completely reasonable. The very instant she gets the opportunity, she starts hurting Jinx by bringing up what she wants from her...to be Powder. Telling her not to be Jinx anymore and to remember Mylo and Vander and all the others...all the ones who she now only remembers as demons. Silco was less worried about losing Jinx...and more worried about Vi destroying Jinx. If Jinx looked at him and told him that she wanted to be with her sister, but that she'd never forget him and would always come back for him. If she was clear, and sincere, and willing to work it out...Silco would've let her go. He wouldn't have been happy at all...but he'd have let her be who she wants to be, and he'd have been cautiously supportive. His fear was that Vi would convince her to do that...but then spend every waking moment either dead-naming Jinx and trying to force her to be Powder, or just ignoring who Jinx really is. Vi would manipulate her into a situation where she'd just keep trying to force her to be Powder, with no one at all to speak up for Jinx. Not even some opportunity to find a balance between the two extremes, some kind of reconciliation between Powder and Jinx. Vi wants only to get rid of Jinx entirely, and have only Powder. No compromise.

There's a lot of resignation in Jinx during her final scene. It's in her eyes, her expression, and her body language. It's heartbreaking, because she's finally given up. If I had to guess, she's thinking back to the horrible night, all those years ago, and she's thinking that Vi was right: She's a jinx. And if she's going to be a jinx, she's going to be the worst bad luck the city of Piltover has ever experienced. No truce. No negotiations. No peace. Jinx will show them all. Let it all burn, and let chaos reign. War is coming... Thank you for the reaction, and I hope to see you in Season 2.

Yes, once again I"ve come into this comment section agreeing with you on the most part. I do want the team to take all the time they need, and I don't mind waiting for them to return at all. With the way they ended it for season 1, they have my trust, essentially. For the love of everything that is good and sane, I never fail to cry my eyes out whenever I revisit Silco's death scene. It hits me every single time, I can't bear it. And I think you've nailed it with your analysis on Silco just on that scene alone. I do also think that Silco is very much aware of how badly the thoughts of Mylo, Claggor and Vander haunts Jinx. It is very heartbreaking how Vi couldn't possibly have any idea of that, but the pain is added on further when you realise that Silco (in his own way) was trying to protect his daughter, Jinx. And yes, I am so glad that you added on that Silco was trying to make sure that he wouldn't become another ghost that haunts Jinx. With his dying breath, he made sure to tell Jinx that it's okay, and that he loves her. That last sentiment there, I haven't seen it being articulated in many other channels. I hesitate to say that you are the only one because of course I haven't seen every channel there is. Nevertheless, it's what sets you apart from the other channels that fall within your scope. You have really created a brand for yourself, Sir, and I damn well hope you are proud of yourself for that. :) When it comes to Season 2, I have my own hopes of what the outcome will be for those who were in the peace meeting. However I do digress that what I want might not be what they'll think is worth doing 😂 I am most looking forward to the dynamic between Jinx and Sevika in the future. I am also very, very interested in the dynamic between Heimerdinger and Ekko, and I really wanna see how things will change(or not) between Jayce and Viktor. Oh, and don't worry, you didn't miss anything-- what was hanging in that corner was meant for those in the know. :)

Remember what I said about Marcus repeating Grayson's arc? We have Jayce repeating Marcus' arc. We have Silco repeating Vander's arc. We have Vi and Jinx repeating Vander and Silco. There's a major theme of repeating old mistakes, and being trapped in the past. "Like everything is the same as when Vander left him" "You can have Powder back" You can't go back, you can never go back. My favourite little touch is Jinx's expression after she kills Silco and sits in the chair. It's not a decision, it's resignation. She's giving up. She's not deciding to be Jinx, instead she feels she can't escape it any more.

One thing a lot of people miss, Sevika is not loyal to Silco in this episode. And she admits as much. When Silco asks if she was tempted to betray him she doesn't simply say no, she says not for someone like him and then she mentions there will be others. She does not say she won't switch her allegiance to whomever these others are only that there will be others. Sevika is loyal to one thing only, and that is the cause she is fighting for. If she sees that someone is deviating from that cause and she finds someone with a better vision she will go over to them. She already did it to Vander and she would have done it to Silco. I believe Sevika finding this bigger fish of the Undercity will be a major point of season two. Someone that shares her vision a bit closer. Perhaps even someone we don't expect.

Something I'd hoped you'd pick up on, considering how much you usually get from one viewing of the show, is how Vi is the person responsible for the failure of the peace deal between Zaun and Piltover. Yes, Jinx pulled the trigger and Silco wouldn't have accepted peace if it meant giving up Jinx, but the deal fell through because Jayce demanded Jinx be handed over, and he only knew of the name Jinx because Vi betrayed her sister in the council meeting: "Who built this bomb?" "Her name is Jinx". Also, without that betrayal, Silco would probably still be alive, because he wouldn't have had the 'discussion' with Vander's statue, so Jinx wouldn't have overheard and misunderstood, and he wouldn't have ended up at the tea party. Vi is a great character, but she also blundered her way through 9 episodes and screwed everything up, because her primary goal was vengeance against Silco, not reuniting with her sister, because as she told Caitlyn in ep6, she thought Powder was dead. Which makes her "I only thought of getting back to you" speech to Jinx a bit of a lie.
@4Tom4lepus4
@4Tom4lepus4 11 ай бұрын
I love Vi as a character, at the same time I feel like people don't talk about her faults enough (which are a part of what make her a good character). Her blind hatred for Silco is shown again in this episode, even if it means turning her back on Jinx. She doesn't understand her sister, she only sees her own side of things. We see it in her repeated refusal to see Jinx as a changed person but instead she's "brainwashed" and can return to being the old Powder, she tells her to picture precisely the people who are like the demons who destabilize her and, most tellingly, refuses to accept that Silco and Jinx have an actual relationship despite being literally told "She's like his daughter". The line "You never have to see him again" absolutely shows that she doesn't understand what her sister is going through or what she needs.

As always delivering the best discussions on youtube, I've watched Arcane so many times, but of course you're the one that's capable of pointing out details I never noticed. Regarding Viktor and his leg, his first interaction with the hexcore used up his shimmer variant stock in exchange of "augmenting" his weak leg. But that's it, he could walk or run now, but the rest of his body still holds him back, that's why he went for a second round. This second attempt had no shimmer to pay with, so Sky was taken instead, all for a hand. But the problem with Viktor is not just weak limbs, he won the worst prizes in the genetic lottery, he is still dying from the inside, the fainting, the coughing, all of it, it is still eroding him.

They announced a second season shortly after the first, of course. On one hand: I'm glad, because I want more of the same level of writing and animation. I love this world that Riot has created, though I've never played any of their games since I'm not a fan of MOBAs or card games. On the other hand, I'm sort of sad that this wasn't the end, because it's a perfect ending, if you think about Arcane like a modern shakespearean tragedy. At the end, Jinx pours all of her hatred and rage into a rocket that destroys every hope for peace by killing the government of the city that has kept them all in the squalor of the undercity. She fulfilled the legacy that Silco (and Vander) left for her, and it's an awful catharsis at the end. Imagine if that was it, if the whole council is dead. The end. You can already imagine all the destruction that will follow that decision, well enough that you don't even need to see it. When you think about the lead up through the last 8 episodes, it's a beautiful, inevitable end. It's too bad that because we know who is and who is not a canon character for Riot's games, we also *probably* know who dies and who doesn't. That means at least a couple of the council are still alive, and since we know there is a season 2 coming (and likely a 3 and 4 at least) we know this is just a cliffhanger instead of a perfect tragic ending. You talked about this a little bit, but I don't agree- they might kill off main characters, but not if there is a sequel. They need at least some of the council to bridge the various plots they set up in this season. My *guess* is that we'll find out Jayce had his hammer nearby, and he and Mel survive.

This comes from something I read in passing but there is a chance that Arcane doesn't keep following the Piltover gang- that each season is it's own story set in the same universe. Like Season 2 sees us over in Demacia, or down in Noxus- Ionia, Freljord, so on and so forth- following different people. I want this story's follow-up of course but I also like that idea. There's also the thing they've said that what is canon in Arcane isn't necessarily canon in the game. I doubt they'd kill off any in-game characters because... well, they're the moneymakers and the main icons... but there is a non-zero chance they might?

This show is incredible in many ways but the most important for me is how little time they spend to introduce new characters and yet all of them have their own personalities, motivations and goals. They don't feel underdeveloped or one dimensional despite the short time we spend with them. This show is masterclass in storytelling. And when people sometimes try to defend other media with arguments like "well they didn't have time/money/opportunities to develop this character/story/plot" I can just show them this series and all of those excuses just vanish. Specially when it comes to adaptation, this proves that you can create amazing story even without any story in source material. You just need good writers and passionate team

30:00 100% Thats what Ive been saying all along- I dont doubtSilco would kill Vi if he had the chance but he would *never* do it infront of Jinx unless he felt he had too. He really did love her, as twisted and damaged as his world view is, I 100% believe he did what he thought was best for her. Ironically, he ends up the only person who really understands her. Thats where Vi fail. She brings up Mylo, Claggor and Vander cuz theyre her happy place, what carrid her through her darkest hours not realizing its the exact opposite for Jinx. Theyre her worst nightmare and what keeps her trapped in her trauma. Silco understood this and he sad how much it was hurting her, so he did whatever he could think of to make it stop. I dont even think he was worried Vi would win her over in that particular moment as those were the absolte worst things to bring up in order to do so. EDIT: Haha, I paused towrit this comment, you went throught it almost the exact same way I did. Great minds think alike, I guess :P I also think Silcos monologue to Vders statue is one of, if not TH, best in the entire show.

Your reactions did not dissapoint, but man did the weeks go by fast, I guess having only 9 episodes will do that. I'm even more excited now for season 2 and your reactions. Looking forward to when Last of Us makes it to the channel as well, another 9 episode show funnily enough. I hope you get to check out Severance in the future as well, checked it out recently and it seems like something right up your alley.

The scene with vicktors mentor panning to the creature is a tease at another character from league of legends. Just a theory but I'm thinking maybe vander is his test subject that turns into it.

the ceo of riot just recently confirmed on the league yt channel and on an AMA on reddit that they are planning on making arcane, lol,legends of runeterra(which takes place in the same setting as arcane) and other league mediums into one unified canon story. So its not gonna be the same to how the marvel comics is detached from the MCU.

It's smart to. The other games don't depend on the continuity of the backstory so minor retcons going with whatever works best in Arcane would make sense as Arcane is going to really boost the value of the IP.

The imagery of the super mega death rocket is pretty striking, right? It doesn't immediately come to mind, but haven't we seen something like that before? Yes, it resembles the magic propulsion trails of the Hexgates, but there is another similar image - the corrupted mage flying into the sky in Heimerdinger's flashback. EVERYTHING in Arcane is deliberate.

the worst thing that can happen and no one in the comments thought about it is that the mixture with which the jinx loaded the rocket will produce a massive release of energy / matter into the building, where there is a hex core several floors below.. at the same time, several conditions will still match - Victor (host to the hex core) will be injured from the explosion. the building will lose its integrity and begin to fold down. and inside the building there will be many living beings who will be injured and bleed... how about this monster? )

Also, on the point of Jinx being kinda like the Joker. You're definetly right, and I think that goes to show a certain kind of beauty in how this show adapts from its source materials. All the league of legends characters are pretty much made up of very recognisable archetypes and character tropes (this is not to say that the characters are one-dimensional or boring), so that's what the show is given to work with. Jinx fits right in the crazy manic girl archetype, but they treat that archetype with the utmost care, attention and nuance. This same principle applies to every single character they introduce and adapt into Arcane.

It didnt win alot of awards, it won all the awards. Cleaned house at the *Annies* (the Oscars for animation) Its the same thing but still quite different. Like 14 of them or whatever, and they earned every damn one. I had massive expetations on Arcane. As a veretan league player and, while not being a buff, has a large interest in the lore behind the game I knew VERY well how fakking off the charts these writers are. I was, without flinching, expecting the best show of the year, bare minimum, What I got arguably the best show Ive ever seen. I expected the writing to be world class dark fantasy, they delivered and its virtually flawless. I havent really found ANYTHING to really complain about, minor nitpick that are not actually anything wrong but just due to personal taste. I expected the animation to be very high quality, DIDNT know Fortiche had got the job, Im really glad they did and they deserve it but I just automatically immagine there would be a million miles of red tape somehow making it really hard but they made it happen and thank god for that. But even for Fortiche standards, this show is absolutely unbelievable in its art, they didnt even use mo-cap... let that sink in. The soundtrack was also stellar, here too it was better than expected even tho music videos has been Riots biggest thing next to the game for a loong time, in this case it just crossed the Ts and dotted the Is even more than usal, thery thought about literally every little thing. And the ONE thing I was worried about, the Voice Acting. I have a really hard time with most Voice acting, especially involving kids, Id rather DIE than watch anime dubbed, íts like abstract cancer for my ears. The Voice acting is one of the shows strongest features... THIS shows... strongest feature. The show that has arguably the best EVERYTHING Ive ever seen and the VA is what kicked me in the face. EVERYONE gives the perfomance of a lifetime, not for a single second thought out this entire series did I ever think about or even realize that these are not actually real people, theyre animated characters voiced by actors. To me they were Vi, Powder, Cait, Silco etc, not Hailey, Mia, Katie and Jason. Its was SO real, SO authentic, SO damn perfect that I sometimes, STILL to this day, has nightmares about Powder crying in that allyway. Its the most horrific scene Ive ever witnessed, an 8 year old girl crying for help surrounded by her dead family and fire as the rain starts pooring.' And it would not have worked at all if me had not absolutely killed that perfomance. And *Mia Sinclaire Jenness* (Tag that name in your memory) was only *11 years old* when recording that, she made perfection look easy. Absoluely unreal.

Unfortunately, I don't think this will be a game changer series. Arcane is a passion project stemming from a company with a bottomless wallet. I'm certain there are people out there with vision and passion on the level of the people behind Arcane but they aren't on the same level financially. If you take a step back and view Arcane for what it is, it's essentially the equivalent to a movie trilogy in terms of production, all released within 3 weeks. I don't really keep tabs on animated series so maybe something good is in the works, so I might be completely wrong. Would certainly like to be.

It's so tragic how all these other react channels have hundreds of thousands of subscribers for just watching an episode and not adding much afterwards. Idk if the youtube algorithm is griefing your channel or what but you deserve to be one of if not the highest subscribed reaction channel out there. I hesitate to just call you a reaction channel because it's much more than that. The way you're able to analyze the plot and these characters after one watch it quite remarkable. Keep it up brother, you're doing amazing, we all appreciate you. Also I'm sure many have said but the creature shown in the scene with silco's doctor is a bit of an easter egg for people who really know and understand the lore, and I'm sure even most people who play the game won't catch it so easily.

Interesting when you consider silco's voice is the only voice she never hears telling her bad stuff about herself. He unironically was the realest character by far in this first season. And the then Jinx crying shimmer while Silco's words echo again was just so beautifully done. A pretty cool way I've heard that ending scene summed up is "Powder protected Vi by killing Silco. Jinx avenged Silco by killing Powder"

One thing that always bugs me about some people... Silco was not a good person...not at all. But he was no villain. He wholly believed in his cause. And honestly...his cause was ABSOLUTELY a just cause. And the fact is, had ANYONE else actually stepped-up and shown they could do what needed to be done for that cause, he'd have HANDED them his power gladly. Silco did believe he was the only one that could save Zaun, but not because he thought he was special... It's just that he saw no one else who would willingly do the terrible things that had to be done. Don't get me wrong, he enjoyed his advantages, and he didn't handle Zaun the way it should've been handled. But, few could, and in his situation, no one else could. He hated what he had to do, but there was no other path left to force change. To stop Piltover, they have to be shown they don't have power. The only way to take Piltover's power, is to unite Zaun and display the same amount of power. The only way to unite Zaun is through coercion because of how poor everything is. It's just how people are. The constant worry and hardship of poverty doesn't happen because someone is stupid...people become stupid because of the constant stress on their brains as a result of the poverty. The poverty occurs because of Piltover's wealthy elite (in this case). Even though he took Jinx as a pawn originally, he grew to love her as his own. Maybe there was lingering guilt over Vander. He probably saw so much of himself in Jinx, also. Maybe it was just that strange for him to have someone in his life with whom he could share true mutual trust. Whatever the reasons, Silco would've done anything for her...DID do anything for her. Silco was a big-time crime boss. Yet his office was positively littered with little drawings and other things given to him by Jinx. On display for absolutely anyone who came to do business with him. And even so...in front of so many important allies and foes, he displayed them with no embarrassment or shame at all. He made plenty of mistakes, but it's entirely impossible to rationally argue that he didn't fully and genuinely love her as his daughter. She was literally the only thing that brought any joy to his life at all. "I never would've given you to them. Not for anything. Don't cry, you're perfect."

That pan shot with the doctor is something only LoL players are gonna get, or I guess people who pay attention to the lore and voice lines. It pretty much confirms one major theory we had during the running of the show, but there is no way for you to get it without context. I would probably stay in the dark and get surprised in Arcane season 2, but if you are interested, you I can post it lower here. SPOILER I GUESS That is warwick, one of Singed's experiments who is a bloodthirsty werewolf thing (check out its champion trailer, pretty dope) and it is probably Vander, which was hinted at with in-game voicelines, people in show calling Vander the dog of the underground (or something like that, a lot of dog-based nicknames I think) and some other stuff I don't exactly remember, but it all makes sense if you go watch someone who has all the details.

There is actually actually League spoiler that is going on in that scene that everyone is missing. Singed is holding a locket photo of his daughter that he makes mention of in episode 8. If you enhance the image and blow it up, that photo looks a lot like another League champion that passed away and was 'resurrected'. I believe all these experiments with Shimmer are all to find a way to bring her back. I also believe he will find his solution to his problem when using what he learned from Viktor and that other individual we see in that ending scene.

Two main thoughts: 1) I’m not sure Silco is saying she’s perfect whoever she is, because he was moments earlier quite adamant that her name is Jinx. 2) How many times can they finally get rid of Powder for good? At this point it feels safe to say it’s all just one person, but she calls herself Jinx now.

It'll be really interesting how they approach season 2, and whether they combat what I think is a major problem these days with fans and their expectations. This show quickly became one of my all time favourites. The themes, the art direction, the acting and animation, everything about it is stellar, and now my expectations have risen. i went into it not necessarily expecting greatness, but it blew me out the water. I have my fingers crossed that they'll hit the same heights as they did in S1, but having taken out Silco, it could be difficult.
