Mel's a mage. thats it. thats the secret. pretty bluntly stated. She was born a mage because her father was one, which makes her able to naturally use magic, which before HexTech was the only way anyone can use magic. which makes her extremely powerful. Her mother hid her, because that power makes her dangerous and the Black Rose would try to take her because they are also mages. That lead to Ambessa having to choose to sacrifice her son in the attempt to keep Mel's secret. The Rose found Mel anyway, and Ambessa wanted HexTech, and eventually Viktor's army of magic automatons because these things are powerful enough forms of magic for the Black Rose to fear them. Making HexTech, and Viktors creations, something Ambessa could use to fight them. Ambessa only had a small detachment of soldiers in Piltover with her. Most of the occupation was done with Piltovers own enforcers, not Ambessa's men. When Caitlyn turned on Ambessa, Caitlyns enforcers turned on her too so Ambessa had to bring in a full contingent of her own troops to take the city by force so that Viktor can finish his evolution and then give her the army of undying magical automatons she wanted to use against the Black Rose.

13:53 Maybe yes maybe no. Firstly, even tho magic abilities can be inherited from parents they not always have to. Sometimes it could be dormant for generations, sometimes there could be no mage in your family line but you could be born a mage. Runeterra (the planet) is soaked with magic so it's really just a part of nature. But given the interest of Black Rose I'd guess her father was one of their experiments, it would explain why she's so strong. Black Rose is known for their experiments on people.

Regarding Mel's weirdness, did you watch Ambessa's music video? As for the green rune things, they're a reference to an in-game item, but you've also seen them in use: Ricktus used them to break the spell when he and Ambessa were attacked by the Black Rose, and also absorbing Jinx's shots when they fought at the cult hideout.

That video doesn't explain anything, just adds more questions and will confuse people, specially non lore knowers. It's separated in two parts, one is canon, and one to promote their new non canon skinline Chosen of the Wolf, and I'm pretty sure you're confused which is which if you recommend it like that.

I guess you refer to that video because you think Kindred granted some blessing to Ambessa and that's how Mel go her powers? First of all it's just not possible. Kindred do not grant any blessing, they are natural force driven by their purpose - claim dead. In the skinline she did get a blessing, but it is not canon, it's set in completely different universe. What happened in that video is clear when you can differ canon from skin. She saw Wolf because she was supposed to die and it came to claim her soul, then she passed out and saw a vision of her being on the throne. But then she woke up because Mel saved her, unintentionally, just like she saved herself and Jayce and Wolf went back. In canon Kindred hate Ambessa, those who cheated death are abominations to them, they would never granted her a blessing.
