@@impersonal6650 Yeah, the foley work, incidental and diegetic soundscape on this show is rivaled ONLY by one other sound designer that I've witnessed in my 49 years of stomping around on this Earth. That guy and that film redefined sound in cinema. Of course I'm talking about none other than Ben Burtt's work on "Star Wars" in 1977. Until Arcane, nothing else had a soundscape this distinctive and signature, in my opinion. I've seen over 10,000 films in my life and Arcane and that very first "Star Wars" and "possibly" "The Empire Strikes Back" are the only films that have effectively immersed me into the fantasy of a fictional world this succinctly just with it's sound design alone.

That's because a lot of media when incorporating music in their scenes tend to decline and sometimes remove foleys altogether to make the music sound clean, which is why Arcane excels so well because they incorporate the songs to the story. Another great example would be hearing Wasteland playing on the background of episode 9 as Ekko and Jinx talk as if she's playing the radio, and Wasteland plays as she attempts to end her life.

For me, it's even more tense without it. When I first watched the episode, I got overwhelmed with the music and the fast pacing of the fight so I couldn't fully process what happened on the screen, I didn't even catch up that the hextech weapons malfunctioned because of the glitching hexcore below at first. And without the music, with these amazing sound vfx only, I feel like this scene becomes more grounded, and each action characters take really has weight to it

While with the Woodkid's song on the background the scenes are perceived like a piece of cinematography. Either catalyzes a different emotion, but both are good in the end.

The audio engineering and foley work in this show is just stunning. I'm not sure I've ever heard this level of immersive detail in a an animated show before. In quiet scenes, the characters' CLOTHES will sometimes make the right noises when they move. Mind-blowing.

I think it speaks to the work put into the show that this fight is amazing with and without the music. Sometimes animated fight scenes get a lot of heavy lifting done by the music ( particularly when there a lot of slow mo / bordering on freeze frame moments ). This one still holds up. In fact without the music I’m able to follow the action easier and better appreciate the sheer brutality, and preparedness of the combatants to leave their opponent a bloody corpse throughout.

I was actually thrown off by how prominent the music was in the fight, because it felt like it was trying to make it epic instead of tragic. Even if the slow-motion stands out more without the songs, there's a mute terror in this silence. Especially the scenes in the Hexgates. If the music version was screaming, this felt like choking. They're both powerful, but in different ways. Without the music AND lyrics, it's much easier to follow the fight.

@@xxlCortezAgreed. Straight from the first episode, I found it odd that they ended the Enemy intro with another song right after, ending a musical segment by starting another musical segment. The only one I didn’t mind was Sucker because it was tied to an actual scene with dialogues, but Paint The Town Blue and Hellfire felt kind of unnecessary outside of the cool visuals. Honestly, the entirety of Season 2 suffered from a lot of screen time misuse. I wish they had cut all the unnecessary screen time to make room for scenes that answer all the unresolved questions and issues related to Season 2, especially Act 3 which felt incredibly rushed and could’ve used more time to tie everything up.
