Michelle, This was SO helpful! I'm currently working on my Master's thesis using tornado data, and I was surprised and THRILLED to see you were also working with tornado data! That made my life so much easier :) Very easy to understand. Thanks again

Hi Coryn - How wonderful that you got a double-whammy -- hot spot analysis AND tornado data :) My background is in climatology and I love fitting it into my GIS work wherever I can.

An excellent, thorough, well-explained, GIS tutorial for a change. Thanks and good job!

eckoboy748 and also, do you know which tool is best to use for correlating raster datasets? For example, a layer showing density of crimes and layer of population density, and seeing the geographical correlation simplistically?

Hi, I was wondering if you had a good way to blend the IDW so that it looks presentable. Thanks!. Great explaination in the video btw

Ryan Kelly Ryan - you can go into the raster layer properties > Symbology and try changing the resampling options from the dropdown menu. The default is nearest neighbors but I usually prefer one of the others.

Nice teaching video. It delivered a basic concept of manipulating hot spot analysis for GIS data. I have some questions about this tools. Can I apply the Hot Spot Analysis on my Tree Data which are classified in 3 tree risk levels, low (1), medium (2) and high (3) to review their spatial distribution pattern?
@geomattix8 жыл бұрын
+Ho Chi Chung Yes, you should be able to use the Hot Spot Analysis tool to find patterns in the risk levels. Here is a help document describing the tool's use: desktop.arcgis.com/en/arcmap/10.3/tools/spatial-statistics-toolbox/hot-spot-analysis.htm The Optimized Hot Spot Analysis tool is for the XY locations of the data only. The Hot Spot Analysis tool lets you aggregate the features based on an attribute value, such as your tree risk levels. Good luck!

Thank you so much!! May I ask what is the difference between Optimized Hot Spot and Hot Spot Analysis? I applied Optimized Hot Spot before without Analysis field, the result was not satisfied and all were not significant. Therefore, i applied analysis filed in optimized hot spot analysis which was nearly same as the result in Hot Spot Analysis. So, Can I still use Hot Spot analysis for my tree data. Moreover, I would like to ask what is the statistical significant implied in the Hot Spot Analysis? Thank you so much again!!!

+Ho Chi Chung There is a lot of statistical theory that Esri has published on how these tools differ. I refer you to their spatial stats resource page: blogs.esri.com/esri/arcgis/2010/07/13/spatial-statistics-resources/
