ArcGIS Online: Web Mapping with Arcade Expressions

I do not understand why they don't have an option for SQL regarding querying your DB. It seems redundant and very proprietary.

it is. Though SQL is used for querying data just not labeling expressions or field calculations.

A torturous intro...gave up after 10 min. For those who do not know Javascript, and are unfamiliar with transferring code sections to achieve a certain effect, this is a non-user friendly bridge too far.
