Billy Napier lost to the 5-7 Texas/Sark team in 2021 at Louisiana. Knew he was snake oil when Florida hired him. Scratched my head then, now shaking it, thinking and saying out loud, "I told you so." Sark beat him by 20 with Hudson Card at QB. Just because a coach is a good turnaround coach at Group of 5 schools doesn't mean that they can do the same at the Power 4 level. Texas found that out with Charlie Strong and Tom Herman. You need a coach with actual experience coaching a Power 5 program at least and preferably extensive experience (over 5 years). Texas hired Mack Brown and Steve Sarkisian and both had that experience, one was a success story, and Sark looks to be another one as well. The other two in between them did not have the experience to take on the Texas job. We hired Charlie who looked like he had some promise, and he fixed the decadent culture in the program. But that never turned into wins. He bought the same coordinators that he had at Louisville when he could have got anyone in the country with Texas' money. Herman was hired for a stupid reason- because he beat OU once. Chasing wins over OU is why we have lost the edge to them for the majority of the last 20 years in that rivalry. Herman screwed himself with the locker room and the fans in 2020, and it was the one time I stopped watching Texas because I just didn't support the coach. Sark drew skepticism from me because of his coaching record entering Texas, but Nick Saban didn't have the best record entering his time at LSU either.

Matt Barrie is a great surrogate for his friend, Dan Mullen, but his "facts" are nonsense. Mullen was not only fired because he could not and would not recruit, but also because he stopped coaching!! He got tired of the pressure of UF and gave up midway through his last season. Did Matt even watch the last games that loser coached...and I use the word loosely? Furthermore, it was not JUST that Mullen couldn't recruit...it is that his recruiting was mostly smoke and mirrors. Most of the highly ranked recruits never made it onto campus because their grades or off-field issues were so bad, good teams did not want them to count against their recruiting numbers. To the best of my recollection only 3 players from Mullen's 2019 class were on the roster 2 years later. Also, the fiction that Matt spouted that Mullen's classes were just as good if not better than Napier's is wrong. Looking at the ratings of the players, each of Napier's classes had higher per player ratings than Mullen's. Gator teams are much more talented with Napier's players...even though you cannot tell that from the field because Napier is so bad as a head coach. And even with all that said, Napier's recruiting is bad...because he does not recruit quality linemen on either side of the ball. So, he gets highly ranked QBs, WRs and DBs...but no good OL or DL. You do not beat good teams like that.

Agreed on OL. Disagree on DL. McCrays a dog. His linebackers are dogs. They are just poorly coached. Point blank.

Kirby Smart was the reason Dan Mullen got fired.

No. That game was maybe the mail in the coffin, but that coffin was already graveside by the time the UGA game rolled around. Remember Darth Mullen at the press conference. I haven’t forgotten. That told us Mullen’s mental state at the time.

Good. Kirby made Mullen look really bad.

At the high school, college and pro level. A player cannot lose his starting position because of injury. Great job Arch!

Archie Manning in his senior year played LSU with a cast on his broken left arm and threw a touchdown on their first possession.

Finebaum can't stand Kiffin. He will say anything to diminish his accomplishments and stir up concern among the Ole Miss fanbase. I have absolutely no idea why they dude is considered a reliable journalist.

I don’t understand this Meyer talk. He was completely to ic everywhere he went. Do you not remember what was going on at Florida under his watch?

Need more Matt Barrie on The Pat McAfee show to talk about our Sun Devils and how good Cam Skattebo is
@ericwilper3763Ай бұрын
Hiring U. Meyer on a temporary basis would be a disaster. Why? Because once you hire him on a temp basis, the fanbase isn't going to accept anyone else.

I listened to you last week predicting Colorado Buffs would be drowned by Colorado State because Deion isn't a coach. But this week in your talk you didn't even mention how wrong you were about Colorado.

big Gator fan here-UF fell into the Internet-bro-fessional "chatter," when they fired Mullen & hired Napier...we could have had Brian Kelly if no one else...ugh, it's BAAAAAD in the Swamp!!!

How does it help to fire a coach so early in season? They cannot replace him with another permanent coach mid-season. Let him coach through most of the season and see if he can make some adjustments.

Love Arch but he lit up a team that probably doesn’t have many NFL players on D with an offense full of 2025, 2026 draft picks. So just be happy to have Two Heisman quality QBs in the depth chart.

Which is currently a worse train wreck, UF or FSU?
@renrose7508Ай бұрын
FSU for sure, they had expectations with more pressure to be elite than UF, but neither is anywhere near a good team right now

At Florida he’d have Georgia, Tennessee, and LSU on the schedule EVERY year. He’s got it good at Ole Miss

If we don’t land Lane I wanna go innovating. Let’s offer Kellen Moore his first HC job and let em bring that NFL pedigree down to Gainesville. I also like the UNLV OC he’s a really strong recruiter and offensive minded ex player. The kids absolutely love that dude
