Chill pill everyone please. Bickering over the location should be beyond our temperament. We likely will not know a complete answer to the geography questions. I see strong evidence to support both theories and theses. LIDAR added to central America evidence. Mounds, remnants of fortifications, etc. speak to N. America. Some of my Canadian "Indian" (First Nations) friends spoke of a great white bearded God who promised to return to them. And so the teeter totter of evidence tips back and forth. However ...... ..... the primary purpose of the Book of Mormon is to convince Jew and Gentile that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world and that the Bible is also the word of God... both books being the left and right leg upon which the body of truth is restored. As a FORMER AGNOSTIC, converted by the Spirit and the testimony that ride within the Book of Mormon, we should care FAR LESS about the geography questions and care far more about our movement on the covenant path AND how we aid others to learn of the restored truths. I thought that scripture central avoided making determinations about where the Book of Mormon took place. Tyler came up with that weird nebulous map... But there is certainly a massive lack of evidence that this happened at all in the Yucatan/southern Mexico area.
@kendallmann3674Ай бұрын
After spending over a year in Guatemala and studying the findings of LDS archaeologists and CES teachers, I found that there is ample evidence that the Book of Mormon took place in the area depicted on this map of southern Mexico and Guatemala. The evidences are the actual descriptions of the land that the prophet Mormon described throughout the Book of Mormon. They all fit into the actual mountain ranges, the seas, the lakes, and etc. of modern Guatemala.

Just for clarification: in October 2000 General Conference Elder L. Tom Perry testified that the United States of America is the promised land prophesied to father Lehi in the Book Of Mormon. The land of the Nephites and Lamanites was not in central America.
@joncharlotteschoenАй бұрын
That is a conjecture. General conference talks, as important as they are, and as important as apostles are in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints, are no way definitively 100% to be taken as scriptural and gospel and 100% the word of the Lord. I think you're grasping at straws. Other apostles and prophets, including President Nelson, have said that we do not know where the Book of Mormon lands are. There's no harm in speculating where those lands could have been. I for one, think it's highly likely they were in Central America.
@zandersturgillАй бұрын
Elder L. Tom Perry also said this, "Archaeologists have now confirmed the existence of a great pre-Aztec civilization on the American continent. The Book of Mormon is a record of this civilization." (The Church and the American Bicentennial). But I don't think we can use statements by Church leaders to prove where the Book of Mormon took place. The Church's official geography essay says that it's not revealed. So in other words, no matter what prophets have said about geography, none of it is has been at the official doctrinal level.
@jerrygrover8992Ай бұрын
Oliver Cowdery taught in 1830 that Lehi landed in Chile. Appealing to church leaders you will find them all over the map, no pun intended. That's why it is pretty clear there is no accepted revelation as to Book of Mormon geography.
@TheRozylassАй бұрын
No matter what modern prophets and apostles say, The Book of Mormon itself declares that the land of the Nephites would be a land of liberty where the Book of Mormon would come forth and the Gospel restored. USA is the only land that fits that prophecy.

Hey Jasmine I've really liked this series so far, but I'm so confused as to why you decided to put the location of the Nephites, Lamanities, and Mulekites right where the Olmec were located? It's totally fine if you were just doing this visualization for pure conjecture but It just caused unnecessary confusion is all. I like looking at evidence but sometimes these videos can veer off into complete theory that I think gives the wrong idea to non-members of how we visualize these people groups. These findings are exciting for sure, but I think it is healthy to be unbiased, academic, and sceptical of things like this. I've seen this stamp evidence before too, but I personally want to take these things with healthy skepticism because much of the time the connections to the Book of Mormon are just huge stretches. I personally think there is a reason these people groups don't have much if any evidence for their existence, and I think stuff like this that can reach into, if not just flat out IS pseudo-archeology which gives us members a bad name.
@reppi8742Ай бұрын
There has been trans Atlantic and trans Pacific travel, also travel up and down the North and South American continents for millennia. "Could have been, might have been". I think we all make it fit where we want it to. There are tens of thousands of artifacts. We are just beginning. Only 10% of Jerusalem has been excavated for example. I think we need to pay closer attention to the content of the BOM and live the principles rather than be distracted by the where. It's obvious that with all the many Hebraisms in it Joseph couldn't have fabricated it.
@chriswhetton3584Ай бұрын
You have a very good point. While I love these kind of videos, it is all speculation on the end. It is important to not start to let your testimony hinge on this kind of stuff, because what evidence shows changes with each new discovery.

So far, that is the only place where evidence of Mulek has been found, as in the Maya day names there are three sequential days that correspond with the Hebrew alphabet as noted by non-LDS archeologists. One of these is day names is called Muluk. Also there are some stela at the Olmec site of La Venta dating to the correct time period that depict an individual with Near East/Phoenician dress and look (aquiline nose and beard). One of those stela have three glyphs, two are not legible, but the other is the glyph for "foreign king". So at this point, that is the only place where the scientific evidence points.

Do your research. They never lived in Central America. And the only ones still pushing this false narrative are trying to make a buck off trips, classes or books. And the fact they would show that image is insulting to everyone. And only puts the church in a bad light trying to explain it. As there are way to many holes in a BoM set in Central America.
@joncharlotteschoenАй бұрын
Various apostles and Prophets have said various things regarding the lands where the Book of Mormon might have taken place. Are we not told now, that we simply do not know where the Book of Mormon lands were? Yes, Packer, among others, have said it was in North America, specifically the United States of America. That doesn't make it so. That is his opinion. Until the Lord reveals where the lands in the Book of Mormon were, I'm not basing my testimony on it. But I will continue to speculate, and there's no harm in that. As long as I don't "teach" it as truth.

So all those who eventually joint the church, followed the pattern of The Lord.
