This has now become one of my all-time favorite AD tours. Your father’s passion, artistry, and perspective are things to be admired. I appreciate his use of reclaimed materials and adoration of the nature around him. Absolutely beautiful.

@@amraceway I was interested in the statement about surviving earthquakes. I designed and built my own house in land 65 miles fro this house. I saw that it was built on pilings. This makes sense. It had the least intrusive footprint and if put into the bedrock will never have an issue. This is the least intrusive footprint.

I'm moved to tears. "Let's build a sand castle for mommy." is the most amazing thing I've ever heard. This needs to be a movie or a whole documentary. I would love to hear more stories about your neighbors and the parties. There's nothing else like this anywhere!

@@nataliaan Unfortunately, life circumstances change. Sadly, in some cases , new homeowners move in, and renovate according to their style. I hope that that much of the original design remains intact.

I've been here 4 or 5 times on jobs, it is only better in person, and this family is so nice. There are many more nice features than what's shown here.

I love these houses that just get developed by the actual architectures even after the initial building is finished. They have so much character and thought put into them and you can just see it....

At first i wasnt sure how i would feel about this house but as we went more in depth, the more fascinated i became with it. The attention to detail is spectacular and i love the idea of using reclaimed materials

This is the most beautiful AD property I’ve ever seen, if this was in my family with the stories behind it all I could never sell it id need it to be kept in the family but each to their own and I truly hope whoever does purchase it sees the beauty and takes care of it keeping its authenticity without changing it

Same here. My heart sank when he mentioned that it's on the market. I hope it is snapped up by someone who falls in love with it and doesn't end up being bought purely for the land it sits on.

I once went to a party in this house. Nan was holding forth in the kitchen with a Shakespearean reading of the LA Times. Unforgettable! Rod did not show up however.

I love seeing how others live. I love that we preserve these spaces. There is a felt sense of life and love and everything in between. When we view this as a collective, may it give rise to our shared humanity, even if we feel we are lacking. Yes, there are places and people that live seemingly more elevated. But don’t discount beauty, as you find it.

I love the history and the story of this house and how it was built. This is one of the reasons I fell in love with architecture and design, because it's so fascinating and you can always learn something new. I never knew sand was non compressible that's a fun fact I will always have knowledge about now.

This is my second episode with the same architect. I’ve never known much about architects but I have to say he’s my favorite because he uses reclaimed materials, camping out on the site before designing and building, and customizing everything to optimize nature.

Wow this is exceptional artistry and labor of love , exactly my style if I had the money this is were I would live. I was thinking wow this house will never be on the market - gasp! its for sale !? I would never be able to sell something like this wow, the only reason I could think of is that it will be eaten by the ocean sooner than later. What many lucky years they had, a serious dream.

WOW. This house is insane. All houses should be intune w nature like this. Theyre beautiful and eco friendly and hits all the marks to live in harmony w Gaiaa. A win on all frontsss Edit: also its amazing how it was built in the 60s and yet its still seems very modern and current even today !!!! Maybe cuz its beautiful yet simplistic and i think visual simplicity along w touches if beauty in the building process always seems current when it comes to trends in architecture
